Apologize to the people on here who hate skilled players making skilled plays, but Cal Ritchie had another great game last night to beat the top team in the OHL
I am not trying to get into any arguments, but this is a grasping-at-straws post here brethren. All the concerns about him have been justified based on his preseason and regular season games in the NHL. The point is for him to become a long-term NHL player, not to get his number retired in Oshawa. He got cut from the Avs for a reason and that is because he was clueless on his play away from the puck. He's very skilled, but he has stuff to work on!

The question is not whether Ritchie is a NHLer or has skill or not... it is... is he another Strome or is he Scheifele?

If he turns into Dylan Strome 2.0, that'll actually be a win for the amateur scouting staff. Might not be a building block but it's still a solid asset.

If he turns into a poor man's Strome, well, then that would be a major disappointment. Skill is most definitely there, he just needs to learn what to do when the puck isn't on his stick.

On his third team… coaches and orgs don’t like these sorts of guys. Eventually the value is there for a different org to take a chance.

People take Strome as such a slur… which it isn’t meant that way. He’s just a player… a flawed one.

If he has good defensive wingers, he'd be fine.
I just don’t agree with that. Center is too complex of a position for that to work in a role he’s needed in. If he was a 100 point guy, you live with it. As a 65 point guy… you need him to actually play defense in a team with aspirations.

Ehh… is Strome really a guy you’ll win with? Hawks also learned quickly to send that guy away (Dach).
I don't disagree with your assessment with Strome and Dach, but I do think that they're the players that tend to need a few change of sceneries/more time to become a well-rounded center. I wouldn't be surprised if within a year or two Strome develops his defensive game a bit more and becomes a legitimate top 6 center... but I also wouldn't bet on it either.
