I responded to a specific response to that post, but I'll answer your question anyways. If you're asking the question as broadly as you are, nothing, but there's a lot of things to consider here. First, that we already have 7 defenseman on the roster who are good enough to be playing regularly and it's entirely debatable if a guy a team just threw on waivers is more deserving to play on our team than any of our guys, especially because we are trying to develop these guys and want them getting in games, not competing and looking for a surplus of depth. Then you have to factor in who you drop from the roster to replace him, do you drop Reimer at a time when the team is unsure how healthy Gibson is? Do you drop Johnston as the only extra forward the team has when McTavish is hurt giving us only 12 healthy forwards WITH Johnston and needing us to run 11-7 until he is back? Do you send Zellweger down when he tore up the AHL and there's plenty of reason to believe the best place for him is learning the NHL game? Do you waive a guy like LaCombe who is younger and probably has more upside for a guy who is going to hit UFA in a few months? It's not as simple as "he's another asset, we should grab him"
