Is Jiricek rumored to be available?
Nothing from big insiders about a deal but he’s been up and down in the AHL/NHL and been healthy scratched a bit.

They also have Cuelmans and Mateychuk coming up

I have read from a few CBJ fans that a trade would make sense and they need FWD help, combine that with our needs and the fact he’s Czech, I have a feeling a deal happens. There will be a bigger spotlight on him sometime this season with the whole situation there w his ice time and development

If I recall correctly he has had some public comments about being unhappy with his usage so far last year.

Who would we be trading him for? If I remember correctly he was a high first round pick for them recently, no?

Last season, he stated he wanted to play or get traded. However, his play and practice habits haven't been good. The coaches gave him a top 4 opportunity and he didn't earn it. My understanding is that he's responding positively to being demoted but is a work in progress. I highly doubt he's traded unless he outright demands it and it's not at that stage yet IMO.

Maybe our first? not that I would make that trade but trading McTavish, Zegras, Cutter or any other first rounder seems like you're just shuffling chairs on the titanic

I don't know how anyone can look at what's going on with this team and think what we're missing is yet another bottom pairing defenseman
I think everyone would agree with that but my priority is to avoid mentally ruining young defensemen by giving them too much playing time before they can handle it. Clearly that applies to Zellweger and LaCombe (and Luneau before he was mercifully sent down).

Given this analysis, why would we want to bring a guy like that in to be coached by Cronin? It sounds like he would be even more unhappy here.

I agree. The Ducks don't need more players learning to play the right way. The need guys who can show others the right way to play.
You can already tell that cutter G listens to the coaching staff with his approach to shooting from everywhere. I hardly see him caught out of defensive position either. Franchise changing trade verbeek pulled off. Wait and see

Out of curiosity: what's bad about another asset?
I responded to a specific part of that post, but I'll answer your question anyways. If you're asking the question as broadly as you are, nothing, but there's a lot of things to consider here. First, that we already have 7 defenseman on the roster who are good enough to be playing regularly and it's entirely debatable if a guy a team just threw on waivers is more deserving to play on our team than any of our guys, especially because we are trying to develop these guys and want them getting in games, not competing and looking for a surplus of depth. Then you have to factor in who you drop from the roster to replace him, do you drop Reimer at a time when the team is unsure how healthy Gibson is? Do you drop Johnston as the only extra forward the team has when McTavish is hurt giving us only 12 healthy forwards WITH Johnston and needing us to run 11-7 until he is back? Do you send Zellweger down when he tore up the AHL and there's plenty of reason to believe the best place for him is learning the NHL game? Do you waive a guy like LaCombe who is younger and probably has more upside for a guy who is going to hit UFA in a few months? It's not as simple as "he's another asset, we should grab him"

That's fair, wasn't sure if you had a problem with the player specifically or just with adding a lower quality asset in the broader sense.
