Buffalo is at the point where they need to package prospects for proven NHLers, like they did with the McLeod trade. They have an abundance of prospects

Peterka, Quinn, Levi, and Benson are all due new contracts either this summer or in 2026, and they already committed huge money and term to Dahlin, Thompson, Cozens, and Power. Luukkonen also has quite a bit of term left at a not-small cap hit, so they gotta be careful. Of course they also have to decide on some veterans they already have.

Personally if I could find a way to get a decent return on Power's contract with no retention, I'd do it, and I'd do it before I move Byram. Just get out of that contract because I don't think he'll live up to it at all. Then again the organization appears to be souring on Jokiharju and Samuelsson.

Buffalo needs to quit the BPA thing and build a team. In no world does having 4LD like Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson and Byram make sense... makes even less sense with Johnson and Novikov in the minors and close as LD as well. Then their whole abundance of skilled players and not enough 2 way, higher IQ guys.

The player they need is Mikko Rantanen to play on Tage's wing.

We should make a deal with Buffalo. Send Girard + for Byram. Bo wanted to be a top pair d-man so Bednar can put him with Cale and Toews on 2nd pair with Manson

Why would we want to trade for a guy that Makar would have to babysit?
What do you mean babysit? Supposedly Byram wanted to play on top pair, but back then Bednar wasn’t splitting the Toews Makar pairing. Now often Bednar puts Girard with Cale and Toews with Manson, so I was thinking that it would have been nice to have Byram play top pair instead of Girard

Makar would have to deal with all the mistakes Bo makes while Bo free wheels all aggressively. Aka babysit.

That's because Toews hasn't been the best defensive option at times. Unfortunately

Byram wouldn't either, not until he's calmed down and figures out hes better off playing defense.
