Yeah thats what i also think. I have no idea how they are going to fix the goalie mess. I know its early in the season but i fear Georgiev is gonna cost the team again, they have no faith in him
People saying Georgiev wasn’t that bad in playoffs, he wasn’t even a top 20 goalie based on GSAR. So we literally couldn’t buy a save during the playoffs. Idk about you, but I’d rather they address the weakest link of this team. Don’t have many kicks at the can left.

Georgiev was awful and a complete liability outside some games, game 6 against Dallas probably being the best showing.
I would rather take Grubauer over Fourgiev any day of the week. Dont' think I've hated a player more than Fourgiev.

I know this is a popular thought, but really if you look at their Avs' tenures you'll see differences. Grubi was a net positive for the team and wasn't perfect, but never shit the bed to George's level. George is a net negative and falling apart in front of our eyes. Now Grubi in Seattle... he's played pretty bad most of his tenure with only flashes.
IMO Grubi was the definition of purely average starter here. Not a guy that'll win you much, but he doesn't actively hurt the team every night. George is a bottom 5 level starter that actively hurts his team on most nights.

I actually agree with this. I just think acquiring Grubauer now wouldn't give us different results pretty much at all - he was better a few years ago than he is now and our defense was better a few years ago than it is now. He wouldn't most likely be Georgiev level bad, but he would be a horror show also.
Right now, to us, they would be the same picture.

That’s probably fair… but Grubi is certainly playing with an even worse defense than the Avs are today. Avs are in the 5-10 range, Seattle is probably closer to 20. Wouldn’t be unreasonable to believe that Grubi would have better results here than he would in Seattle.
That's also probably a fair assumption. Damn I miss Varly at this moment.
For shits n giggles, it would be entertaining to see Georgiev behind a bottom 10 defense. Would he evolve into Sevengiev?

And? In the Avs system he was an decent fit. He wasn’t elite or perfect, but he was an average to at times above average net minder.

Gru would’ve been good enough on the cup winning team I would imagine.
That's just not true. Grubauer was never this bad. He had a bad series against Vegas but he still stole game 2.

This is where I'd say the Avs aren't built in the manner to aim higher. They'd need to re-work the roster pretty significantly to fit in where the market is heading there (8+m for the top half of the league/top 10 sort of goalies)
We were legit one of the most dominant teams assembled in the 2000’s. Lost 4 games. 2 of which were shit games from Kuemper. Possibly 3. Could’ve swept a third round out of 4.
We still have questions to be answered with Landeskog with what we’ll get in quality of play. We know Nichushkin can play. Guess main concern is what will cap look like with all of Lehkonen, Landy, and Nuke back. Get a number in which we can afford a goalie and fire Georgiev into the Sun. Colton probly has to go too to afford a decent replacement.

Really... any trade today is difficult to improve in net. Teams still have hope, so they are less willing to give up their guys and the rosters they constructed. The ones that don't, you're trading for similarly flawed goalies... like Elvis or Grubi. They could be better, but they're available right now for a reason. It is hard to pry out a young guy who may need a starting net as teams just haven't seen how their year progresses and if they want to move that asset. The proven guys that'll possibly be moved haven't had their teams fall apart.
What we get to is situations like Detroit and Philly... where you might be able to snag a guy they don't feel is their starter, but a NHLer. The Husso/Lyon/Ersson sorts of guys.
Which means the Avs will have to ride this out for a while. George doesn't take losing his net well, so you can't just throw in Annunen quite yet. You have to give George plenty of rope before going to Annunen... but that has to happen if this keeps up. From there you have to wait out teams and their seasons falling apart or a personnel situation to crop up.

A situation to monitor is in Vancouver. If Demko returns and is ok, and both Lankinen and Silovs are "fine", they might be willing to let go of Lankinen.
