Huh, I didn't know you couldn't demote him without waiving him again if another team lower on the list makes a claim for the same player.

Lol and why would CMac do them a favour? I bet the player himself would also love the chance to play in the Avs top 6/top 9 instead of going back to the AHL again

The Avs shouldn't be in the business of doing 'favors' for other GMs if the end result is making your team better today with a waiver claim than it was the day before.

That is especially true when you're talking about a team that is competing with the Avs in the same conference during the same contending window.

Lavoie has good AHL numbers the past 2 years and would very likely be at minimum a much, MUCH better call-up than OO or Foudy. They could easily send Ritchie back to junior or Ivan Ivan back to the AHL to make room for him and give him a real shot and see what he can do. If it doesn't work out, they can put him back on waivers in 1,2,3 weeks and the Loilers will reclaim him to stash him back on the farm but at least the Avs will have given it a shot.

This seems like a no-brainer to me - in terms of development, he's well ahead of where Ritchie is right now. Everyone knows Ritchie is getting sent back - whether that's tomorrow or in 10 days, it's going to happen.

Really... any trade today is difficult to improve in net. Teams still have hope, so they are less willing to give up their guys and the rosters they constructed. The ones that don't, you're trading for similarly flawed goalies... like Elvis or Grubi. They could be better, but they're available right now for a reason. It is hard to pry out a young guy who may need a starting net as teams just haven't seen how their year progresses and if they want to move that asset. The proven guys that'll possibly be moved haven't had their teams fall apart.

What we get to is situations like Detroit and Philly... where you might be able to snag a guy they don't feel is their starter, but a NHLer. The Husso/Lyon/Ersson sorts of guys.

Which means the Avs will have to ride this out for a while. George doesn't take losing his net well, so you can't just throw in Annunen quite yet. You have to give George plenty of rope before going to Annunen... but that has to happen if this keeps up. From there you have to wait out teams and their seasons falling apart or a personnel situation to crop up.
He’s had enough rope. At this point he’s hanging onto fibers somehow

Maybe Edmonton just claimed Lavoie back because they didn't want to lose him to Vegas specifically - a division rival. But now that they know that Vegas claimed someone else and likely won't be reclaiming Lavoie they're more comfortable letting him go on waivers again. Better that he's with the Avs than with Vegas essentially.

Fully healthy this is quite a formidable roster. Just upgrade in net and maybe add Savard and a proper 4C and you're cooking. This is probably tight capwise but Cmac can figure that out.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Landeskog - Mittelstadt - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - Colton - Kovalenko
Wood - Kelly - O'Connor
(Ivan/Kiviranta/Ritchie)

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
DeHaan - Malinski
(Kylington, Ludvig)

Georgiev
Annunen

Yea

Claim him and waive Georgiev. Send him to the AHL. Attach something to him to dump him at the deadline or earlier.
Yup, 100% Georgie needs a wake up call. Dude got everything he wanted and has proven he's not even an average starter.

Nobody is claiming his ass, might as well roll the dice with Kahkonen and hope George can get his game together in the A.

So claim kahkonen+Lavoie
Send Ritchie back
Bump Colton to 2LW

DROUIN Nate Mikko
Colton mitts kovalenko
Ivan Lavoie LOC
Wood Kelly kiviranta
Lavoie isn't a center. He'd most likely be a direct replacement for Ritchie if/when he gets sent back to junior as a RHS scoring threat in the middle 6.

Drouin - Mackinnon - Rantanen
Kovalenko - Mittelstadt - Lavoie/Ritchie
Wood - Colton - O'Connor
Ivan - Kelly - Kiviranta

At this point you have to pay whatever draft picks it costs to unload 4giev.

You cannot be a contender with a sieve that inspires zero confidence and causs the whole team to play with clenched cheeks, trying not to make mistakes which ultimately leads to whatever the f*** Girard, Makar and Toews were doing last game

Man I'd love to swipe Liljegren from Toronto. I know he makes too much, but certainly has the potential to be a Gustav Forsling type addition (obviously won't be that good, but still)

I say pull the rip cord, but quickly and silently, he shouldn't still be here after the playoffs anyway.

I can't believe I actually would take Grooo back, but I would as an attempt to shake things up if nothing else.

When has a team last traded for a top level goalie mid season and won a cup?

Last TDL goalie hype I remember was Ryan Miller to STL and it ended up badly, STL paid A LOT and Miller was a lot worse than he was in Buffalo.

If we were to acquire a goalie mid season we should do that ASAP so the goalie can adapt

This is where I'm at, just do what it takes now. The more we're trying to overcome high scoring games the more Bednar is going to drive the top players into the ground also.

Roloson in 06? Went to the finals with him.

Avs need to trade for Logan Thompson if for no other reason than we need to overuse that Simpsons "Hello Mr. Thompson" meme.

It's been real dry around here since we traded Hanzal... After all, he was so hot right now...

In theory, pulling the rip cord would be great. It just ignores the reality of the market. There are only 2 types of goalies that are available right now. The first are the #3 sorts that teams don't want to lose, but didn't win a NHL job with them. Kolosov and Lyon types (I frankly would welcome Lyon with open arms, but I'm not under the illusion he's a legit starter). Those types don't solve the issue. They only add another Annunen type name, where George is clearly more talented than them.

The other type are guys like George. Guys who have been starters (and maybe not good ones) and struggled where teams are willing to pull the rip cord themselves. Elvis, Gibson, George, Grubauer. It is a pure bet that any of them regain form with a change of scenery. That would be the whole bet. I would probably investigate these, but the Avs have been typically hesitant to make these moves early and odds are it would be assets/cash wasted. Just would go against their MO.

Solution type guys only become available later in the season in offseasons. Markstrom could have been had last season (and the price was quite high), but it wasn't until Dec/Jan that things could really get moving. The teams that have these guys and would move them want to wait and see how their season pans out. At this point, nobody's hopes and dreams have been dashed... so teams will hold onto actual good players, playing at a high level for a while. Realistically, we're looking at January at the earlier. Maybe an odd situation plays out in December... but a couple months away from those guys.

With all of that, the Avs are going to try like hell to have Georgiev find his form. It likely won't work, or if it does, it'll only be for a short bit. They know he offers something the #3 sorts can't. The change of scenery guys might be an option, but odds are that is reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. So you push George in the meantime until a solution type guy becomes available.

All that said, and I'm certainly in the minority, I'd give Gibson a run if you could get Anaheim to retain ~2.5m. Swap George and Gibson with a sweetener. See if Gibson can find his motivation and game again.
