Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

Is McTavish's skating good enough to be an upgrade on Mitts for a Bednar team? Honestly asking, because I haven't watched him enough.

Norris from Ottawa is somewhat interesting, but staying healthy on a non Avalanche team has been jtrouble enough for him. He'll probably spontaneously combust after stepping off the plane in Denver.

Zegras is coming off knee surgery, doesn't have a good two way game, and is a bit of a prima donna. Might not work well with Bednar.

Barzal will miss the next six weeks after an operation on his knee cap, and I'm not sure how the Avs fit Necas, and Barzal's $9.15M.

Nelson is a UFA rental that won't be cheap to acquire, I'm not sure whether he's a center or not, and I'm not sure he's a great fit on Bednar's team either.

I don't know what NJ would offer for Mitts, but I'm not seeing a good center they'd trade the Avs. Ditto with Toronto.

Sid has unfortunately made it very clear he wants to be a Penguin for life.

Zacha from the Bruins makes some sense, though it's a bit undewhelming. He's a similar 50-60 point kind of two way C as Mitts, but maybe he skates better, scores more goals, and wins more physical battles, so he's a better fit on Bednar's Avs? Maybe he works well with his fellow Czech Necas? Necas played for Zacha's home town team Brno, but they're couple years apart in age, and I don't think they ever played together, even in tournaments. He's $1M cheaper than Mitts too (helps with Jones?) for two more years. He makes more sense to me than those other guys, but I'd like to hear more options.

I agree with @Balthazar the market is kind of working against us here in terms of options. That's why Kadri is still an option, because they at least know he's a good fit on the team, and in the room, and can score goals, and produce the offense they desperately need outside the top line.

Historically though, this kind of situation is where CMac and Sakic pull a rabbit out of the hat and make a trade for someone good we weren't expecting. That would be nice if they can do that again.
Norris qould be great but he can't stay healthy. I'd take Greig though even if hebisnt a 2C

I'm not going to defend Miller here, but EP40 had been playing like shit before that supposed incident, and he has not looked great even now when they traded Miller away. So that's not an excuse anymore.
He was great last night

If this is true, and I get the sense this is a one sided biased representation that left out why Miller was upset with EP, the appropriate response from EP should have been, "f*** you, you're a f***ing asshole."

Then go out and score a hat trick and call out Miller for being lazy. Give him some of his own medicine and tell him to sack up and quit being a bitch and help the team. EP would have done his part and backed up his comments with his play.

Then if Miller does his part, you buy him a beer, tell him you still think he's an asshole, Miller says he still thinks he's a (whatever shitty thing he wants to call him) you laugh, cheers, then walk away from each other, and go win more hockey games, and your team comes together afterwards because of it.

You don't have to be best friends on a team, you just have to both pull in the same direction.

Pouting about it, letting your production slip to a 57 point pace after the team gave you a $92M contract that pays you $11.6M a year, splitting the dressing room, and getting the team to trade an important player on your team for a mediocre return that made your team worse, was not the right approach.

Looks like EP only has 2 assists in 5 games after trading Miller too. Onus is on him now to pick it up with Miller gone.
Play is separate from the issue of disrespect. IMO, EP would have been within his rights to clock JTM upside the head from the get go. As for me I’d warn JTM once as a civilized gentleman not to bring his shit in here. I’d warn the Canucks as a courtesy since we’re their employees. And if JTM pulled that shit again and the Canucks hadn’t done shit about it to meaningfully put an immediate halt to it then I’d go full on barbarian on JTM and beat the shit outta him with a 2x4 if necessary. Not kidding! FAFO!

What a crock. Personal disrespect isn’t okay regardless of play. If you tried that shit with me I’d take you and your friends out without hesitation.

Imo this comes down to a bad organization. There is JTM in lots of locker rooms in every single sport. The reason you don’t usually hear about it is because most locker rooms will shut that shit down real fast whether it’s a coach or the leadership team. And if the leadership team doesn’t, it usually ends in someone getting punched in the mouth and then it settles down.

Most likely there is nobody available this season. However, it's been three years.

They also traded Byram and a 1st to offload RyJo in this quest and still don't have a #2C. Just a terrible look for CMac. It should not be this difficult.

I would try Necas as the #2C, it's the best option there is and it doesn't cost a damn thing. Maybe it works or maybe it won't, just try it.
It’s not going to work. People need to stop with the Wingers as Centers nonsense. You won’t win shit with Necas as 2c

Mittelstadt seems to be on his way out of Colorado, and if it's not the Leafs, Devils or Sens like Friedman mentioned, consider the Ducks an option, along with the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus seems like the team that can take him, not send any salary back and make it a futures heavy package.

Zegras does his own thing out there, dipsy doodling and turning over the puck all the time. Zero commitment to defense or buying into any style, focus is on highlight reel plays. Also not fast at all.

Would be a weird target but might speak to the speculated disconnect between CMac and Bednar.

He is insanely talented, though. That cannot be questioned.

His shootout winner last night:

If they can get Zegras to fall in line with the team mentality it could be a good move but it’s incredibly risky with how immature he seems to be.

He will have serious issues with our skating system. He’s an East-West player with elite hands. Not a skater.

Well under league average in every skating statistic, just for context.

Yea he's talented but more of the same IMO, I don't see it working here.

List of 2C in the Bednar era:

Kerfoot, Jost, JTC, Kadri, Newhook, RyJo, Mitts

Only one worked well, Kadri, and arguably only worked well for one single season.

I would love Zacha but he is literally Boston's top line center and not sure they are going full sale while still in the wild card race. A retool or hockey trade could be a possibility though.

Avs trade:
Colton
Wood
Malinski

B's trade:
Coyle
Peeke

Total cap is almost a wash with the B's gaining 600k-1.5m depending if they keep Malinski up. Add a low to mid pick if necessary.

Coyle plays a much better middle six RW/C flex than Colton and our left side is overloaded. Neither is having a great year by their standards. Wood plays Bs type hockey and Peeke can play a more solid bottom pair than Malinski.

Additional trade:
Avs: 26 1st, Ivan Ivan, Olausson

Col: Provorov 50% retained

Lehky/MacK/Necas
Droiun/Mitts/Nuke
Parsnip/Drury/Coyle
Kivi/Kelly/OC

Toews/Makar
Girard/Manson
Provorov/Peeke

Leaves room to still upgrade Mitts, Landy can plug in for Parsnip if he comes back, Coyle/Necas can be tried at 2C if necessary, Provorov is top four injury insurance on both sides. Colton might waive for east coast and him and Wood still might play meaningful hockey. Thoughts?

So, he's a younger Mittlestadt? Much more talented, but also considerably more immature and injury-prone:facepalm:
Sure would be nice to have a coach who was able to utilize players' strengths right now, even if they don't fit perfectly within his "skate faster and harder" system......

I genuinely wonder if it would be better to try to get Pinto instead, even if he's much less talented. Just like Necas he's had atleast one (maybe two?) contentious contract negotiation. He would be a clear step down on the talent-scale, though. But iirc he would be a more stylistic fit?....
