It was definitely a mistake. We're only halfway into his deal and so far we've had 1 awful year and 1 decent year, and he isn't getting younger.
Again, 33 years old before even one single game of next season starts.
Last year he was a legitimately fine #4D. It was also the most games he's played in a season since 2018. I'd bet a bunch of money last year proves to be the statistical anomaly and we see some pretty solid regression again this year.

I've not been the most positive on him, but I feel like the corpse of Landeskog would still be better than those guys we have.
Let's hope for option C then.

Guys, he's washed and already 35 years old. We don't want that. And in his 12 year NHL career, he's only played one full season.

Cogliano was a warrior, Atkinson is a p***y Lady Byng nominee.
Cogliano didn’t miss games, Atkinson can’t stay healthy.
Cogliano was a PK and defensive specialist, Atkinson is a one dimensional goal scorer.
How are these players similar at all?

I mean you’re signing him for 1 year and for not much at all. Would be as low risk as it gets if it doesn’t work out.
Not advocating for him, but realistically it wouldn’t the worst thing if we signed him and it didn’t work.

Really best for all parties IMO. Tampa will get some much needed space and can get younger. Stammer can find a place for his twilight years where he's not a franchise icon.
Atkinson on a 1 year under 1 million? I wouldn't say no. Bottom 6 roles on the cheap are going to be vital.

He doesn't play a bottom 6 role.
Soft as butter, can't stay healthy, no sandpaper to his game. He's a midget one-dimensional goal scorer who has lost more than a couple of steps.
