I watched most of the Denver - Colorado College game on Saturday night. Both Florida Panther prospects played good.
Benning had a power play goal on a nice one-timer. When on the power play, the play goes through him. He quarterbacks the left point on the first Power Play unit. All decisions seem to run through him. He is also very willing to jump in and lead the rush up the ice. He is a good skater, who also has a nice hard accurate pass. His shot isn't the hardest, but it gets the job done.
Devine is also a nice player up front. He always seems to keep his legs moving, his stick on ice, and seems to be in the right place that is needed most times. He's on the second power play unit. He did not get any points last night, but was on ice for the first Denver goal scored on the power play

Samoskevich had two more assists for Michigan in his return to the lineup this weekend. That gives them three assists in two games returning.

Muszelik had a night stopping 40 shots while facing 44 shots, as the unranked University of New Hampshire had a big upset win over #16 UMass Lowell.

Haché had an assist for Barrie in the OHL Saturday night. He has seemed to step up in the scoring department since being traded to the better Barrie team.

Hoping both Benning and Samoskevich get signed in a couple months.
Even if it's just to be in Florida and familiaize themselves to the area, meet the guys and start training.

Definitely think they get a year of AHL but NHL camp could have an open spot in September on both forward and defense.
Not saying these two will be game changers but hoping for decent complimentary players.

After missing exactly a month with mono, Arnsby had a goal and two assists this afternoon in North Bay's big win over Kingston.

No highlights here, but apparently Vilmanis scored an absolute beauty of a goal today in Sarnia's tight loss over Ottawa. I also read in a Sarnia forum that he is a really good backchecker.
Fun fact, his nickname is Villy

Charlotte with another 2 game sweep, this time it was Syracuse (TB) who lost 5-4 on Friday and then 5-3 on Saturday.

Checkers are riding a 5 game win streak and now sport a 25-15-4 record, further padding their 3rd place spot in the Atlantic division.

Guzda was tending net on Friday, he stopped 34/38 and improves to a 11-4-3 record, a 2.63 GAA and .910 sv%.

Notables production for this weekend, Carlsson scored his 9th on Friday and assisted one on Saturday, now has 24 pts in 34 games but has 5 goals and 10 pts in his last 9 games alone.
He deserves another crack in NHL if rest/injury occurs.

Sourdif scored his 7th and had a helper in the 2 games, 3 goals and 4 pts in the 5 games back from injury.
7 goals and 15pts in 33 games so far, hoping he has a strong finish to the year.

Hutsko scored a goal in each of the games, his 7th and 8th and has definitely picked it up since start of December.
4 goals and 12 pts in the last 15 games.
8 goals and 20pts in 30 games so far.

Heponiemi had an assist in each of the games, his 17th and 18th of the year.
8 goals and 26 pts in 36 games.

I think Sammy definitely needs at least one year of AHL time whenever he decides to sign. I've watched a few Michigan games since he's been there and he's still far from a complete player. I don't think he's going to get the motivation to change his habits at Michigan, especially now that he's one of the scoring stars. If we could combine his offensive talent with Sourdif's all-around game, we'd have a hell of a player.

Checking in on a couple of our other CHL d-men, Nause is having a pretty good year, almost a ppg with 25 pts in 28 games. He's also +40. Alscher has already surpassed his 16 pts he put up last season, with 17 in only 40 games. But his +/- has dropped from +20 to -3. I haven't watched any Portland games this season so I can't say what's going on there.

As pointed out above, Charlotte won their 6th straight, moving to 26-15-4 on the year. They poured 46 shots on net.

Notables from the game:

Kiersted had an assist, he's had a very quiet year offensively, just 2 goals and 7 pts in 22, +7 in 22GP, but he has a goal and 4 pts in his last 4 games.

Same quiet story offensively for Calle Sjalin with just 3 goals and 5 pts in 23 GP, although he has all 3 goals and 4 out of those 5 pts in his last 5 games.

Heponiemi scored his 9th of the year, he's got 2 goals and 9 pts in the 7 games since being sent down.

Sourdif really starting to find his scoring touch, had 2 assists last night and that's 3 goals and 7 pts in his last 6 games now.

Carlsson had a helper, 5 goals and 11 pts in his last 10 games. 9 goals and 25 pts in 35 GP.

Lyon was in net for first time since his little NHL cup of coffee, he stopped 30/33 shots in the win.

Charlotte will rematch the Marlies tonight and look for a 7th straight win and 3rd straight 2 game sweep of an opponent

Denver scored 14 seconds apart last night, as Devine & Benning set up both those goals. #4 Denver beat the unranked North Dakota 5-3.
Denver is poised to make another deep run in the :ff2010 this spring.

Samoskevich used his quick shot to score last night, as the fifth rank Michigan beat the 15th ranked Michigan State 3-1.
Saturday night they play again @ 8 on ESPNU and TSN2 if you want to check that out.

Schwindt used his skate to kick the puck up to his stick and finished the game winning goal, as Mississauga beat Owen Sound 3-2 Friday night.

Charlotte's fun run came to an end last night, losing 4-3 to the Marlies, snapping their 6 game win streak.
They were down 4-0 at one point and almost rallied as they rattled off 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd but time ran out.

Notables from the score sheet:

Sourdif has flipped a switch, he had two primary assists last night, one on the PK and one on the PP. Very versatile player and he's now on a 5 game point streak, he has 3 goals and 8 pts in the 7 games back from injury.

Kiersted scored a SHG and also has a current 5 game point streak going, along with 3 goals and 7 pts in his last 10 games.

Carlsson picked up another assist, riding a 4 game point streak and 5 goals and 12 pts in his last 11 games.

Guzda took the loss dropping his record to 11-5-3, stopping 25/29. He's 6-2-0 in his last 8 games

Samoskevich with three assists Saturday.

Muszelik stops 23 of 25 shots to pick up the win in overtime.

Vilmanis with a single primary assist.

To be honest, I believe that Samoskevich is more of a function of Fantilli...don't have the data on hand, but his big games are usually when Fantill has a big game.

I'd definitely be willing to sell high on him

It is an interesting thought. Samo has been on a few powerhouse Michigan teams the last couple years. That would skew his numbers a bit I'd think.

Checkers sweep Phantoms (PHI) in the mini 2 game back to back.
They won 3-2 and then 4-1, improving their record to 28-16-4, +11 goal differential (was negative not too long ago) and 8-2-0 in their past 10.

They've separated themselves from 4th place, still slotted in 3rd for what feels like months but they've definitely closed the gap on 2nd and 1st. Scary to think Bruins farm system is that good?

Screenshot_20230216_124704_Chrome.jpg

Notables from both games:

Hutsko chipped in 3 assists in the 2 games, up to 8 goals, 24 pts in 34 games so far.
2 goals and 11pts in his last 11 GP.
He maybe get a strong look in bottom 6 next year? Or career AHLer?

Heponiemi had an assist but funny thing is, he also has 2 goals and 11pts in his last 11 GP (last demotion)
9 goals, 29 pts in 40 GP on the year.

Kiersted had 2 helpers in the 4-1 win, that's 3 goals and 9 pts in his last 12 GP.
It's impressive because he had 1 assist in the previous 13 games.

Kinnunen had a helper, he's been streaky this year but he is a rookie in AHL.
6 goals and 23 pts in 46 GP, he's played all but 2 games which should be a strong indicator he's doing well.

Lyon stopped 20/22 in the 3-2 win,
Guzda stopped 17/18 in the 4-1 win and he improves to 12-5-2 with a 2.62 GAA and .909 sv%

@Tkachuk Temperament noticed Millman in ECHL, looks to be doing well there, over .5 ppg in his combined years there.

15 goals, 49pts in 77 total ECHL games.
7 goals, 24 pts in 41 games this year.

Just generally curious if PHI has told him to tighten up defensively or work more offense? Hopefully they have a spot for him in AHL next year?
He actually got sent back to the A two games ago. So he has played the first game against Charlotte, and was a healthy scratch in the second.
He has worked on his defensive game this season a bit. Between you and me (and anyone else reading this post) he needs to go to another organization. Philadelphia actually has a bunch of defenseman, and I don't know that there's a lot of room for him.
The Phantoms are actually an independently owned AHL team. So they're only interested in winning. Doesn't bode well for Prospect development.

A really good, kind of big article.
No idea hew is from Knoxville Tennessee.

Add in Gerasimyuk and Muszelik, and Knight is more expendable than many think. Could be the chip needed to get a Number 1 defenseman.

Ride the Bob resurgence. Re-sign Lyon as the big club backup (he's paid his dues). Trade Knight to fill more pressing vacancies. Guzda is Charlotte's number 1 all next season

That price tag on Knight though, with basically nothing to show for yet... huge potential though

lyon will never be a #2 here (or anywhere). if knight is traded, which i don't think will happen, we will acquire another vet.

I could waste my time educating you on some of the far inferior clowns that have manned the pipes in modern NHL history (Bannerman, Micalef, etc), but you don't have to look far, as I'll remind you that the Panthers once employed Alex Auld.

alex auld was an NHL goaltender. not a great or even very good one but he had established himself as an NHLer with some potential when we got him in a trade.

i am happy for lyon and he really did save our ass. but there's a long leap from that short stint to handing him a backup job.

save your effort and let's just agree to a virtual wager, eh?
