If I were to have to say two days ago, I think Sourdiff passed Smilanic recently in the forward Prospect rank. Ty has been struggling to finish the year in a weak conference, where Justin is white hot right now!

I'm partial to OT, but I think if this trade is going to happen, Philly would want him. He is good friends with my cousin from playing together in Saginaw, a good connection. Plus OT is tearing it up in the A right now, where Denny has been hurt for a while.
Also, not to get too political, but could this war be affecting Russian players/prospects?
I kind of think it's fine to sell high on Denny right now, if you still call it selling High.
I agree with you on OT...I really like the way he has responded in the 'A' after being sent down. His being waiver exempt surely didn't help him with the Cats this season, it made for an easy decision bounce him up and down, especially since he didn't stand out, either way.

Deni, for me I haven't seen enough from him, but he does still have one more ELC year next season. In fairness he has not had (or truly earned, yet) the same opportunity as Tipp has.

I did think last year Tipp took a step up when he was paired with Huby and Bennett on L 2. Now, Tipp's ELC is up, so a new deal is due if he stays, and next year the $ gets much tighter for Fla. I think if Philly wants him, Mr. Z agrees. I hope Sourdiff, Deni, Schwindt and Noel are among the 'non-roster guys they can hold on to; in order to see what they have to offer. There will be some 'low cost' roster spots to fill with ELC guys next year for sure...

Nice problem to have...

Funny, I think the opposite.

Nause
Uens
Benning
Vladislav Lukashevich
Ludvig
Gildon
Berger
Puutio
Nause is our only d prospect you could call an A prospect. Ludvig maybe, but more like a B+/B kind of guy, and he's missed the entire season and that's a setback in his development. Benning is like a B+, his size holds him back from being an A. If he was 6'1", he'd be a top 10 prospect in the nhl. But he's not. Uens has had a nice trajectory the past couple seasons, but he's also a B/B- guy and far from a sure thing. Lukashevich has missed a lot of games with injury this season, I haven't been able to find out definitively if that's why he's been out, if not then for some other reason. Either way, he's played 26 games and has 5 assists. And those all came in the last 10 games. You can't really drop his stock, but you can't say he's progressed either. A pick a lot of experts liked on draft day, but still as of right now far from a sure thing. Gildon hasn't had a good season either, he seems to have taken a step back. I mean you give him next season to rebound, but he's years away if he makes it at all. Berger and Puutio are the definition of longshots. We probably have the worst D prospects group in the league aside from Tampa. It's our F prospects that are keeping us respectable.

Nause is an A Prospect, I agree. He has been getting hot lately but after his injury which is nice to see.
I think Ludwig, Benning, Uens, and possibly Gildon all have a solid shot of making the NHL. They all have minor down sides, but they also all have major upsides as well. They are either showed promise in the recent past, or the season.
Verdict is still out on Luca. Like you said disappointing season this year, but I think you can say that for a majority of the Russian prospects. Good thing is, he was only drafted under a year ago.

Good thing with defense, is that it only requires six for a starting roster. So there's more room for error I believe.

Benning's Denver University got upset this afternoon by Minnesota-Duluth 2-0. Denver season is now over.
On a side note, Minnesota Duluth has made me a bit of money this postseason betting, as they are playing some good hockey right now.

I would say Ludvig and Gildon have a solid shot of making the nhl. Even then, Gildon is gonna have to step up his game. Benning and Uens are more longshots/50-50. Benning is short, with decent but not great speed. Uens is ok but he's far from an A prospect. We really don't have guys that scream nhl or are basically locks, like Power/Ssnderson/Clarke/Lambos/Guhle....and the guys in the next tier all have question marks to some degree.
I don't even consider Lukashevich's season disappointing, but you can't say anything positive about it either. For all intents and purposes, he was just drafted. Yeah he was only drafted a year ago, I'm just saying there has been no progress.

I, for one, am not so keen on individual players but rather on the big picture i.e. can this org help these guys to become NHLers. It's OK if they don't look like bonafide future pros as soon as they are drafted as long as they possess an attribute or two which makes them intriguing. Gildon, for an instance, could be something similar to Ekblad style-wise: a big guy, physical, good/great offensive skills, good skating, below average defensively. If he pans out then there's definitely a spot for him in the Cats' roster.
But as soon as he left Bakersfield and started to play for the Checkers, it's all downhill from there... So it doesn't matter imo how well our mid-to-late round picks do now since they have to enter the meatgrinder known as the Cats' AHL affiliate some day.

Well didn't you just answer your first paragraph with your 2nd paragraph? Florida's development system has never been good, in it's 23 year history. It might be ok if we had a development system like Detroit used to. What makes matters worse is Zito seems to like Kinnear. Also, Gildon is not physical, he's a gentle giant. Kid's got some great tools to work with, but he also needs a lot of work in some areas of his game.

My point was that, as someone else already mentioned, it is difficult to view these prospects nothing more than trade chips when the farm system blows. Like, it would be best to trade Sourdif now at his peak in regards to trade value before he finds himself in Charlotte and ruins the early stages of his career and in turn his trade value plummets. Tipp, Deni, Hepo, Gildon, etc. are systematically stifled. And, sure, there are Hutsko and Schwindt who are having themselves a decent year but Hutsko is already 23yo. Kinnear is probably safe because he's likely a yes-man, he'll do exactly what the big boys in the Cats' org tell him to do.

I don't think Sourdif is gonna spend long in Charlotte anyway. Hepo is doing well. He's always the first callup or reported to possibly be called up. Tippett will be ok I think. The Flyers will give him more of a chance than the Panthers, and it's very likely he becomes a 20 goal scorer. He was doing better in his last games with us. Hutsko is 23 but it's also his first pro year. Plus he's had multiple serious injuries so his development entering the ahl wasn't on par with most kids his age. Considering that I think he's had a very good rookie year. Just gotta hope the development system improves. Zito has faith in Campbell and Geoffrion, who reportedly turned Columbus' farm system around. You can't trade away all your prospects.

Charlotte with the big 2-1 win over Providence this evening. That makes them the sixth best team in the NHL.
Schwindt with a Beauty short-handed primary assist.

A little over halfway through the game, and Berger has a secondary assist on the only goal, as UConn is up 1-0 on UMass in the Hockey East Final.

(He had a shot that missed short side, and bounced off the end boards to his partner. His partner shot and was tipped in.)

1-1 after 2
