He has pretty decent size, and looks like he has some decent wheels, but I'd have to see a lot more of him to give an opinion on his offensive skills.

The Ekblad comparison is nice, and we can hope for another mid-to-late-round find(like Weegar), but I worry about a young player like that getting lost in the logjam of young defensemen we have in the system. We should only have 2-3 spots open in the next 2-4 years, and we are bound to lose a few "in the system" defensemen in the process.

Juolevi
Priskie
Kiersted
Gildon
Ludvig
Nause
Uens
Benning
Kinnunen
Puutio
Lukashevich

I forgot to mention, his shot is probably his best asset. He plays the top point on the power play, much like Aaron does.

Of that list, I'd say Uens has passed a good third, maybe half of that list, due to his very good performance this season, as well as some other people's injuries or disappointing year so far.

Well in the next 2-4 years a few somebody's in the system are gonna get a more than decent shot to show they belong because we will be right up against the cap until Bob either retires, is bought out, or is moved.

I think I've stated this before, if you can't find one or two competent NHL defensemen out of that group...the top five or six of them, at least...then we are doing it very, very wrong, and have a BIG problem.

Personally, out of that group, I like(in no particular order):

Kiersted(L)
Priskie(R)
Ludvig(L)
Nause(L)
Benning(R)
Gildon(L)
Uens(L)(on your recommendation)
Kasper Puutio(R)

If Weegar resigns, then we will need at least 2, if not 3 of this current group to step up.....we shall see.

I'm a little disappointed in the development of Gildon. He has an NHL body, but he doesn't seem to be playing much. Does anyonw know if he's been injured, or had a bout with Covid, possibly? He's only 22, but I have high hopes for him.

Maybe hurt or something?
I haven't noticed him that much this year. Mind you, I haven't been paying that close of attention to Charlotte this season.
From what I remember in the development camp, he is just kind of soft and bad positionly sometimes in the defensive Zone. Quite competent in the offensive zone though.

The Checkers lost in overtime this afternoon 6-5 to the Cleveland Monsters.
Overtime winner, former Florida Panthers Prospect Schemitsch, or as I called him, Big S.

Is there any news at all on Ludvig? What's happened to him? I know he was injured at the beginning of the year, is that still the issue and what was the injury anyway?

I found this this morning in a quick search. This guy is pretty good for Charlotte Checkers news.
Grigori Denisenko, Cale Fleury, Max Gildon, Aleksi Heponiemi, John Ludvig, Gustaf Olofsson and Christopher Gibson missed the game due to injury …
- Home Stand Ends with Overtime Loss to Cleveland - Charlotte Checkers Hockey - charlottecheckers.com

So basically majority of the Florida Panthers prospect on Charlotte are injured right now :banghead:

Yesterday, the Panthers matinee game was on Sportsnet here in Canada. I tuned in just before 3, and they were showing misplays of the month.
On there was a video of the Charlotte Checkers trainer or equipment manager who is the team Hypeman. He lets the players body check him into the wall, or bend over and they slap his butt real hard with their stick.
It was hilarious! I need to find this video to share with everyone.

Samoskevich with a nice cross-ice pass to a pinching defenseman for an assist in the first, as top-ranked Michigan lost 4-1 against 9th-ranked Notre Dame.
He has 13 points in his last 11 games.

Did the team just fall flat in front of Knight?
Think they have rematch against same team today.
Not sure, I didn't watch the game. From the boxscore where I can tell you that it was 5- 0 Providence before Charlotte scored their lone goal.

I actually watched the second frame of the Kingston Frontenacs game scouting Haché.
I turned the game off, as they were wearing their special camo uniforms, and it was difficult to see the numbers, pun not intended.

I'm just checking the status closer. Knight got pulled, as he allowed four goals on 12 shots.
Charlotte plays Springfield tonight at 7. Springfield is the top team in the conference.

So 5 good games and 2 bad ones in the AHL?
Doubtful he gets the start again today?

Just judging by the stats, I'd say 4 good games, 2 bad ones, and 1 so-so.
As to whether he plays tonight, I'm not sure. They pulled him early enough where he had less workload than the goalie that replaced him.

Berger with an assist tonight in UConn's 5-2 loss to Devon Levi's Northeastern. Tough loss, since after two, UConn was leading 2-1. They then proceeded to give up four goals in the third.

Tuned in for puck drop for the start of the second between Merrimack and University of New Hampshire.
Score is tied at 1.
Uens had a good second.
His skating is very fluid. He has a Long Reach, which allows him to have a good stick check. Not afraid to throw the body with his big size. Also like always, he had a few shots that his teammates set up a lot. The thing I noticed, is at one point he pinched and deked around a bunch of players, trying to set up another teammate.

Another game, another assist for OT. Charlotte loses to Springfield, the top team in the east 3-2.
That's his sixth assist in his fourth game in Charlotte.

Uens had an even better 3rd! He had a ppa (should have been two.) He runs the top point of the power play, and his assist was the top Point collapsing to tree umbrella moving to the left. Quite smart.

Uens has unbelievable reach with his sick. He actually looked a lot better in his own end tonight. Often moving to cover an uncovered player, reading the play.
He blocked a shot by dropping to all fours and taking the puck off the high chest. Not the best technique, but I got to admire his cojones.

I know I have a small sample size with four games, but every game this guy is looking better and better.

Next weekend is the last weekend of the regular season. Merrimack plays Levi's Northeastern. The winner secures second place in the Hockey East.

His non-assist.
Calling it right now, NCAA goal of the year. The Fake Michigan. Amazing play!
** I'm watching this play again sober Sunday morning, and I'm not sure why he didn't get an assist on it **

His assist.
The clasping shifting umbrella play.
Alert to Panthers, check this play out.

Benning with a power-play night!
He had a goal and an assist, both on the power play. The cherry on top was an empty-net goal.
Goal was a a wicked slapper on a five-on-three from the left Circle.
Assist was a nice set-up from up top, also on a power play.
