Getting my hockey fix by watching the Third of Uconn - BC.

Berger
looks good. No points, but he's a true stay-at-home defenseman. Good size, 6'0 201lbs.
No offense, although I did see him get a decent shot through traffic on net.

Smilianic with the GWG in Quinnipiac 3-1 win over lowly ranked St. Lawrence.
They Remain the top team in the ECAC by wide margin, and rank fifth in the nation.

Samoskevich with two PPA's in Michigan's 6-2 win over rival Michigan State.
Michigan Remains the number one team in the nation.
My bad, he had a goal and two assists in the game. All three of those points were on the power play.

His first assist was a secondary. Play went on for a long time after he touched the puck

Plays right point on the power play

Looks like he is breaking out when given quality ice time?
The consequences of playing on a Powerhouse Michigan team. He's probably going to learn a lot this year. Guy has a wicked shot and hands.

In other news, notice #8 on Michigan St. who gave the puck away? That's Panther Prospect Krygier

Krygier is a nothing anyway.
He's about doubled his points average in his college career this season, which could be normal for a senior.
For a big stay at home defenseman, he's not got a great plus/minus.
I kind of view him as a long-shot to make Charlotte next year, if he gets a pro contract. And that's a big if.

Yeah I can't see us signing him with all the D we'll have in Charlotte next season. Plus, we could sign a college free agent and have a better shot at churning out an nhl player. Krygier just isn't nhl material.

Benning with the GWG on the rush as the third-ranked Denver's 4-1 win over fourth ranked Western Michigan. His the 11th of the year.

Uens with the PPA in Merrimack 3-2 win over Vermont. This is his third straight game with an assist.

I just tuned in to watch the third of the Merrimack Vermont game. Currently the second intermission. Merrimack is down 1-0. Hopefully I'll have some good news to post on Uens after.

We used to have a Vermont fan hang around these boards when Gildon was there, but I forgot their name. This was many moons ago.

2-0 Vermont. Merrimack goalie is not good.
Uens was on ice, but not involved in the play at all. He is possibly the biggest guy on the ice, has a mean little nasty streak in him, and loves to jump in the play. Really like what I'm seeing so far!

Uens got absolutely robbed coming off the right side on a rush earlier in overtime.

Next shift, rush up the left side, takes a player wide, pass in front of the net, teammates scores, game over.

No lie, I see a young, poor man's Aaron Ekblad. Small sample size, as I've only seen three of his games. He skates even better. Maybe his reach and defensive awareness positioning isn't quite the same, but none the less pretty good for a fourth-round pick.

He has pretty decent size, and looks like he has some decent wheels, but I'd have to see a lot more of him to give an opinion on his offensive skills.

The Ekblad comparison is nice, and we can hope for another mid-to-late-round find(like Weegar), but I worry about a young player like that getting lost in the logjam of young defensemen we have in the system. We should only have 2-3 spots open in the next 2-4 years, and we are bound to lose a few "in the system" defensemen in the process.

As I mentioned previously, Uens had himself an overtime! A personal 4-game assist streak for him. That's 9 out of 11 for Merrimack in recent games. They are getting hot at the right time.

Samoskevich with the secondary assist on Luke Hughes absolute Beauty goal. #1 ranked Michigan won on senior night.

Berger with a secondary PPA in #15 ranked UConn's big win over #9 Massachusetts. Only the Junior's 6th point of the Year. Safe to say I figure he'll be back for his senior season.
