Montreal should give a call to Vegas and see if they can get Whitecloud out of there. He's a defensive RHD who I think would fit well with Hutson.

Baring that, I would try for Korczak. A younger, big RHD.

Vegas top 4 is all signed long-term, even Whitecloud still has 3 years left on his contract, which means there's no room for Korczak.

Vegas either has to move Whitecloud (for cap space), or they move Korczak for roster reasons.

Montreal has the assets to do this type of move.

I'm confused. Are you arguing the Habs can't or shouldn't try top get a better or equal center to Suzuki to improve the team? Because it's not up to you to determine who is, or isn't available and you'd have zero idea of the names that are being discussed by GMs, now or in the off season. It's okay to want them to get a better quality center. Whether they can or can't is not my problem or concern. It's what would be best for the team to becoming a legit contender. That's not a statement or want that any fan can argue. Like, don't get a better center to add to the team, just get a 2nd liner who's not as good as Suzuki... Riiiight.

Suzuki is not only a first line centermen. He is a top one. The only centers that can displace him are in the category of a McDavid, Draiastl or Mackinnon. And there aren't that many of them in the league. Maybe 6 or 7 total. Good luck trying to trade for one without gutting your present and your future. HuGo know this and they made him the captain at 24 and made him the standard that will be paid out to any other stars.

Now I ask you again list for me the centers you think can displace Suzuki from the first line. I noticed you avoided answering me the first time I asked you.

I'm 55 and still play the latest Battlefield. Owned and played all of them and still do. Another one coming out next year I believe. On PC of course!

I hear they're getting a BR. Hope they slam it out of the park, would put pressure on other games to step up

Forget it. The ask for players like that would be FAR too much if any were available. To speed up a rebuild you have to go after players that become available like Dach and Newhook. And neither are failures yet,

Yea it's a good strategy just hasn't work out for us yet with Barron/Dach/newhook.

Dach still has hope on the wing. Newhook is a OK stop gap I guess but nothing special. Barron, GGs

I'm a father of five with a professional career, I don't know how you find the time to do that, write so many good posts, and play games.

I'd love to play Age of Empires, but I fear if I started I'd lose my job and CPS would take my kids.

How are we supposed to know this? Leafs hate aside, Matthews wasn't a 1st overall pick for no reason. The guy won 3 rocket richard already, a hart and a ted lindsay, with two 60 goal season and 2 100+ season. You don't do that just because you play on the leafs.

As far as Aho and Point from the game I've seen of them they just seem a little bit more dynamic offensively than Suzuki, no saying it's a clear win.

I think he is. He has a versatile toolset and creative skill. Good playmaker + can score from a wide range of place. I am not referring to skill or acceleration if that is what you are coming too. Not saying it's a not even close case or anything. I could see Aho/Suzuki form a 1A/1B tandem.

This is just my opinion, and I wasn't even the person asked to answer.

The priority for the Habs is to have a true #2 center player to play either with Demidov or Laine. Dach is not a center but a power forward for the third lines. Hence the importance of drafting one, or even 2 with our 2 first round picks (Desnoyers, Obrien,McQueen, Martin, Cootes).
I don't think trading our second first round pick can get us this #2 center.

No, the best thing is to select and develop him. However, until he can play in the NHL, we could add a UFA center and sign him for 2-3 years to give the young prospect time to develop.There are not many candidates: Duchene, Granlund, Giroux, Tavares, Nelson, Bennett.... Maybe offer a lot to Tavares for 3 years... or Giroux for 2 years.

Remember after Laine score his first 5pp goals a bunch of people wanted to extend him for a boatload....good times.

We should bump those threads. I believe I had this debate with a few fellas a few weeks ago. There were ready to sign him for many years. My words were:"calm down fellas, right now he's basically Marc-André Bergeron, a PP scorer only. Let's wait till he scores at 5 on 5". And here we are!

That's a bit of a logical fallacy. Obviously, if you remove the very best pieces, there isn't as much left.

My point is more simple and not meant to trash the Habs. The point is that we need to acquire a 2C, a top3D (top2, ideally), and maybe even another top6/top4 player. They don’t come cheap if they ever come at all.

So it’s as if we have a large pending debit of our prospect pool.

It doesn’t serve us any good to constantly brag about how much prospect talent we have saved up when it’s almost certain we will not succeed in the near future without dipping into the piggy bank one way or another.

If they hadn’t acquired Newhook for that price maybe we’d have another Hage-level prospect (or even two) and could spare one of them.

Giving an opportunity to grow to a young player does not necessarily lead you to a Cup Contender line up. That's the hasty generalization prospect fans are making. So lets see, how I'd approach this from a high-level perspective:

• I'd trade all the low percentage capital after round 4 or 5 and concentrate everything in the first 4-5 rounds.
• As soon as a prospect seems to be challenged by the league, I'd trade him for more draft capital. (Short tempered, because f*** em)
  • Also based on the amount that will rebound being smaller than the percentages making it in round 5-6-7
• I'd sell all expiring contracts all the time at the TDL, except for core contracts.
  • That's simply because I want a competitive team every year, not taking breaks because x, y, z was injured.
• Speaking of core contracts, I'd extend them before puck drop of their last season with a reachable bonus for next contract on this season.
• I would not invest long terms in support personnel ever.
  • For the same reason as above, get on the market, get the owner to spend, no long terms.
• I would bag of skate everyone day 1 of every training camp.
• I'd PT the entire team on da streets until people get scared.
  • Same as Martin was doing on the stationary bikes.
• And finally, the best player available would need to be an ass, no pansies allowed on my club, no siree.

Well im sure Chantal wont be hiring you on the PR team, but i'm on board.

I'd also add. Under no curcumstances are we to draft any player under 6'0" with a projected frame of >200lbs.

I am so done with these small nifty players (Mesar, Farrel, etc...) their style doesn't cut it the New NHL which is built on speed through all lines.

While i don't think the top 6F of NHL teams have improved much over the decades, what is clear is the bottom 6F have made huge improvements.

Right now our bottom 6 is a disaster with washed up, overpaid, mailed it in vets..

Contending teams need a 3rd line shutdown crew that can frustrate opposition, and generate .5pts/game
And a 4th line that stamps the identity of the team, and will go ape on any team taking liberties. Legion of Boom :

PoE is great but way to addictive, I'm back to my strategy games like Heroes 3 and Battle Brothers.

Thanks. KAEDAN KORCZAK is, indeed, a good consideration, specifically as a pairing partner for Lane Hutson.

So is Whitecloud, who, despite going undrafted, has earned his stripes at the NHL level and has become a reliable RHD in key situations. The definition of a stay-at-home defenseman.

Both players are also not small (6'3" and 6'2") and play a physical brand of hockey, on top of being defensively reliable.

Vegas is also a team known to move players in order to try and stay relevant. One of the two right-handers ought to be available for a reasonable price, I'd think.

I'm not sure if Evans and/or Armia, plus a 2nd round pick wouldn't do the trick?

If the price is right, I would consider it. We could get 2 years of Mittelstadt for some rentals and pick (Armia, Evans and 3rd) that would be totally fine. I am not expecting miracles, but if he could be borderline 2C, it would help us significantly and give time for Kapanen, Beck, Hage. He was 59, 57 pts, now trending to 47pts this season. He can be just a 2 years stop gap for us, not a long-term solution.
