He does.

That was a bit unusual though. The Giants have for much of the season been in the top 5/6 in the WHL in PK%. But that bad Kamloops game contributed to them now sitting 11th of the 22 teams in the league. Kamloops is also a bit of a juggernaut this season. They're 18-4-0-0 on the season (2 of those 4 losses against the Giants) and are tied for 3rd in the league in PP%

I think he's usually decent enough on the PK. Not out there like he's going to be gunning for a Selke or anything at the NHL level unless he suddenly unlocks a ton of unforeseen defensive acumen, but he is good enough to not be a liability and providing some value because he's quick to transition to offence on turnovers or short clears and eat up opposing PP time in a "the best defence is a good offence" sort of way. He's also potted a SHG along the way.
He sure had some good Wheels when I watcheď him in the development camp.

I'm an OHL Western Conferene guy. Really don't see any of the WHL other than the Mem Cup.

If I had to characterize him I'd say he's fast, but not explosive. He can get around guys or turn play around in a hurry if he can get up a head of steam, but he's not a guy who's at top speed within 3 or 4 strides and is past the defender before they can blink. He tends towards attacking defenders and getting past them with power moves. One-hand-on-the-stick, other-hand-holding-off-the-defender type plays where he comes at the opponent then pulls wide around them while setting up the wall, hoping to turn the corner back inside before the other guy can get flipped back around to keep pace.

According to The Athletic Team Canada WJC selection camp starts tomorrow, so it's entirely possible that Sourdif won't be with the Giants when I go to the game.

Officially no Sourdif in the Giants lineup tonight as he's off to wjc selection camp.

Source: me, in the arena listening to pregame lineup announcements.

So no Teddy Bear Goal for him this season. He'll stay 2 behind the team record held by Bowen Byram

Benning's top-ranked in the nation Denver University Pioneers beat NCHC division rival Minnesota-Duluth 5-0. Minnesota-Duluth is the seventh ranked team in the nation. Benning had two goals in the game:

Do we have anything in Benning or is it too early to tell?

Can't say I've ever seen a full game of his. I would really like to see his defensive game.
He really is almost Manic on how he goes hot and cold. He'll get hot, but then he'll go through Long Cold stretches.

I watched him a bunch last season because I saw he had the same point total as Cale Makar in AJHL. He seemed like a very passive player, he was often even behind the blue line when Denver was in the O Zone, but he has great offensive instincts
We definitely don't have another Yandle on our hands, seems like a 2 way guy with great 4 way skating mobility

Charlotte loses 5-3 to Syracuse, despite going 2 for 4 on the PP and having a 38-22 shot advantage.

Assists to Priskie (5th) and Hutsko (8th) on the first goal (PPG)

Denisenko gets it within a one goal deficit with just under 5 mins to go in 3rd.
His 5th of the year, assists to Schwindt (6th) and Bowlby (3rd)

Syracuse is one of the bottom teams in goals for and points as well, so it's a disappointing loss, they rematch tonight. The loss drops Charlotte to 10-10-2 :/

As for the point getters,

Priskie has a goal and 6pts in 17 games, seems low for his potential and past success.

Hutsko
has 5 goals, 13 pts in 22 games, has cooled off a bit on the offensive side of things but still putting in the effort.
He had 3 goals and 8pts in his first 11 games, just 2 goals and 5pts the last 11.

Denisenko has 5 goals and 11 pts in 22 games. 3 of those goals in the last 7 games so he's scoring a bit more often.

Schwindt has 8 goals, 14pts in 22 games. He has 2 goals and 5 pts in his last 4 games. Definitely having a great year, all as 3C or 4C and PK duties, in which he has 2 SHG on the year.
His stock is through the roof right now.

Bowlby has 3 goals and 6 pts in 17 games.

Lineup for Charlotte tonight in rematch VS Syracuse.

Dubnyk getting the nod in net

With some injuries, Schwindt gets a huge promotion to #1C, he's definitely earned it.

Charlotte bounces back very late to take their own 5-3 victory in the rematch.

It was 3-1 for Syracuse with just under 8 mins to go but Charlotte exploded for 4 straight goals, a couple on the PP which is starting to heat up.

Kiersted gets his 6th assist, a primary one on the 2nd CLT goal.

Schwindt will score his 9th goal of the year to tie it at 3.

Heponiemi with his 8th assist, a secondary one on the PP, eventual GWG
He also got his 9th helper, on the PP as well but this was a ENG, making it a 5-3 final.

Charlotte move to 11-10-2 on the year.

his listed on the last lineup card as 1C? hutsko also on 1st line?

is priskie seeing 3rd pairing minutes? could explain productivity.

Smilanic with a nice PPA in a 5-0 Quinnipiac Bobcats win over the lowly Long Island University Sharks in a non-conference game.

Samoskevich also had a PPA in Michigan Wolverines blowout loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes 6-1. It looks like that goal was a set-play, nice execution.
Big win for the Buckeyes tonight against higher-ranked team.

Also, we all talk about Smil, Sour, Sammy and Kos, but Ekmark and Puutio already made their WJC teams. We should have at least 4 prospects attending, probably 5, and possibly 6.
We should get a wjc thread up soon so we don't clutter this one. Always a great tournament!

sourdif makes team Canada. nice pick
@The Nemesis
Nice little blurb about Sourdif in the Athletic. They talked about all the cuts and all the players that made the team.

"RW Justin Sourdif (Florida Panthers): Sourdif’s play in the summer camp worked him into the locks conversation from the outside and he remained there with his play as the top dog on the Vancouver Giants. It doesn’t hurt that Giants head coach Mike Dyck is an assistant on the Team Canada staff either. I suspect he ends up in a checking role on the third line. Of note in practice: Sourdif uses an unusually long stick but he’s still got a deceptive release, which is hard to create with that length. Part of it, I’ve noticed, is just that the puck comes off the blade early, surprising goalies."

Last year I called Levi stepping into the spotlight on Team Canada. This year I'm calling Smilanic to step up and become a major factor for the U.S. I think his speed and ability to get to loose pucks will become very valuable for usa. Even as a sophomore he is always doing something positive offensively every shift in the games I've seen him.

Last season I was heavily invested in Team Canada. With my cousin trying out for the team I feel like I knew a lot about that team. Levi was the best all camp, hands down.
A lot of hockey fans don't know about Smilanic, due to playing in a smaller D1 school. I feel like he's going to be an X Factor for Team USA.
