Does Smith over-rely on his delay game? When he gets the puck in the O-zone, he often skates it up to the blue line which gives him lots of time and space on the perimeter to find a pass or take a shot from distance to create a rebound. It works against a Czech team that isn't applying pressure on the perimeter but at the NHL level, he'll be checked tightly.
A player's goal is to win hockey games.

If a defense gives you something you take it. No player is going to pass up an opportunity saying "well this won't work in the NHL, so I'll give the defense a free pass and make the projectable play rather than producing a goal right now".

Moore kinda seems like Anderson a little. No problem entering the zone on the perimeter because of his speed but keeps skating turn behind the net then gets to the other side still with the puck but then don’t really know what to do with it, try a pass in trafic that doesn’t work

I get that his delay/perimeter game is exploiting the Czechs but does he change it up against opponents who defend him differently or does he still try to stay along the perimeter?

Moore's hands really keep up with his feet.. hockey IQ isn't popping off the page, though.

Leonard is so complete, that goal was a beauty.. 0 chance a respected NHL scout would look at the comparable players in this draft and draft any of them over Leonard.

Smith really has played a simple and effective pro style game tonight, only thing I didn't like was he definitely slacked off on that PK chance, could have put back pressure and killed the chance.

Hrabal has been good there's some mechanical things that bigger goalies have to deal with, longer to get down into the butterfly which is what Leonard exposed, and harder to keep those long arms in and keep the puck from going through the body. Everything else is there, he's a project but he'll be very good IMO.

Sale is really good at anticipating plays and stealing, going the other way, his little chance earlier where he put the puck into his foot and used his foot like a stick to protect the puck was genius.

Smith gets everywhere, his goal was proof of that, he gets in front of the net as well. He wants to get inside but he won't take it inside on 5 defenders with 0 space.

He gets inside. Czechs are defending that play right now. He's just keeping the puck & not turning it over. If you try to force it, it's a turnover, Czechs go the other way.

It's just showing his patience imo.

Sale has barely any entourage around him too to do what he’s doing

If he can improve with decision making and take just a little more time to make the right decision with the puck he’s gonna be REALLY good.

Can we all dream that Hutson is drafted by somebody else, goes to college and then signs with Montreal after playing out his full time?
