Petr Hauser's tournament has been nothing short of exceptional thus far, and all Devils fans should be thrilled with him. His shot and power game are both terrific, and his compete level and two-way play -- as well as his offensive anticipation and awareness -- all seem like plus tools, to say the least.

My major concern about Hauser remains the same as when the Devils drafted him, which is to say his skating needs to improve if he has any chance at raising his prospects from a bottom 6 banger to a middle six supplementary scorer at the NHL level. I also feel his puckhandling could use a bit more work, he's just not much of a deker and is better when playing more of a catch-and-release style.

But Hauser seems to know his own game, which he has taken up to 5th gear for the WJC. His play and the results have been nothing short of outstanding.

So is this kind of a Bardakov situation then? Because every time I see something on Bardakov, I really like what I see...but then I'm like damn, he looks so sloooooooooow and lumbering.

His skating isn’t elite, but it’s not that bad. I think if he continues his development accordingly he could do well in a bottom-6 role. Big guy with a scoring touch, 6’3, 201 lbs.

Hughes strikes me as a player who is thriving almost entirely on his physical tools and talent. He plays fast and loose even in his D zone. Not infrequently he makes questionable decisions. He's got a ways to go as those tools won't be as clearly superior in the NHL. The good thing is you can teach the defensive structure and you can't teach the tools he has. But I think he would struggle quite a bit if he jumped into the NHL in the near future.

I’m not sure what the bolded means. What do players usually thrive off of if not their talent and physical advantages?

In my opinion, if he were to jump in the NHL right away, L. Hughes would be one of the best skating and offensively creative D-men in the league, right off the bat. He’s that elite offensively already, at 18.

Does he have work to do in his own zone and defensively? Absolutely, 100%. Will that be a point of emphasis when he comes up? Absolutely.

Luke nice rush, leaves it for McGroarty who scores! Assist Luke! 2-1 USA!

Trey Augustine also gets an assist on the play. Pure end to end rush by Luke.
