This team is just full of themselves offensively. Never seen a lineup with as little production act so arrogant at the plate.

Belt is the only hitter willing to actually take a walk. Maybe Biggio too.

Everyone else would rather swing at garbage on 2-0 and 3-1 than make the pitcher actually throw strikes. We get it, you’re major leaguers, you don’t need to prove you can hit every pitch every time. It’s like they treat every at bat as a challenge to hit the most difficult pitch possible.

I don’t think you know what wRC+ is.

No but much better at bats. Springer had an excellent hit. Varsho had a good double. Chapman not so much.
Yes I do. I'm just saying it's a useless stat if a team is losing no matter what rank they are in the league.

This offense can’t hit consistently. They could be facing Tanner Roark and I’d still take the under.
Hell. Ricky Romero and Josh Towers could come out of retirement and I would still take the under.

Vladdy proving my point already.

It’s OK to not swing at a 2-0 inside pitch FFS.

Brutal.

Mattingly will go to the Yanks.

I dont think Gibby wants a 3rd go-around.
I guess we’ll see who GM Click hires after he fires Schneider.

Wow, Madisyn Shipman throwing fire and truth during that segment.

Awful approach, need runners, 2-0 count, pops up…wow

That pitch was a FB over the plate on the inside half which is literally Guerrero’s exact wheelhouse. He worked the count to get the exact pitch he wanted that he probably hits like .400 on and unfortunately missed it.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with that.

did you hear that? Guerrero has one hr and seven rbi's in August. Why on earth is he hitting third in the lineup. This is why everyone is harping on this guy. It's just not good enough. I said it last week that they need to slide him down in the lineup. I'd swap him and Varsho out.

On a seperate note how pathetic has the attendance been in Baltimore for such a good team. Seems like the place is half empty all the time. Maybe it's just the angles but it didn't look too busy

Is he hitting .400 on any pitch this year?

This team is arrogant at the plate without the ability to back it up. They almost have this mental complex where it feels like they need to prove that they can hit the hardest pitches.

Better than getting swept.

Jaimer Candelario has a .956 OPS since getting traded to the Cubs.

Definitely couldn’t have used that on the Jays. Ugh.

What does that have to do with ‘arrogance’?

You’re just looking for things to complain about. Guerrero did nothing wrong there. He was patient and didn’t swing on a pitch outside of the zone. He worked the count in his favour. He swung at a strike in the zone. The location in the zone was in his absolute wheelhouse where he destroys pitches - including this year. He just missed it. It happens. The best players in the world are out 7 times in 10.

There was nothing wrong with any of Guerrero’s ABs today.

well two guys got rung up on balls tonight so it's hard to take balls sometimes when the ump keeps ringing them up on balls

It’s not a Guerrero only problem. Like I said earlier, it permeates throughout the lineup. Guerrero and Varsho just exemplified it in that inning.

Shipman agrees with this take, FWIW.

Atkins does nothing all year to address the offense. Same players, same coaches, same approach. The definition of insanity.

They bail pitchers out too often. Struggling pitcher throws meatball down the middle? They take it. Struggling pitcher with a 2-0 or 3-1 count throws something off the plate? They swing at it.

Just a terrible approach.

Again :

Guerrero worked the count and got literally his exact pitch to hit and missed it.

Varsho got ahead 3-0, watched strike 1 go by, fought off a strike high in the zone to make it a full count, and then hit the 3-2 pitch nearly 400 feet.

Both of those were excellent ABs. You'll get no argument from me that we've had a lot of terrible ABs recently (looking at you, Chapman) but both of those ABs were *exactly* what they should have been doing in that situation and you're still finding a reason to complain about it. Neither guy swung at a single pitch outside of the zone. Both guys got ahead in the count and then got a good pitch to hit.

And this goes double because it was against Felix Bautista who might be the single most dominant reliever in MLB right now. It's f***ing hard to have good ABs against him and both guys did.

How is someone taking a meatball down the middle if they are 2 0? It was Chapman taking down the middle today

Chapman has definitely been a mess and if you took his ratio of swinging at balls to watching strikes in the last month or so it would have to be near the bottom of MLB. And it's been even worse with RISP.

Guerrero's approach really suffered from the point of his injury in mid-May through the AS break but has been excellent in the last month (15BB:12K in his last ~30 games) but his problem is that he's back to hitting too many balls on the ground like in 2020.
