I think I am the only one with patience for Varsho. :) I will give him 400 AB and see where he’s at.

At least you’re not claiming the Jays won that trade and making yourself look like a fool so I can respect your desire for a larger sample size.

However if you look at the larger data set from his time in Arizona you’ll see that he’s never hit for average anywhere and his on base numbers are rather low.

He shouldn’t be sitting higher than 8th in the batting order and shouldn’t be in the lineup against left handed pitching. In other words he’s not an everyday player.

What a rough month for the Jays, just nothing going right

Nothing is going right because the Jays management didn’t set the team up for success and their manager isn’t holding underachieving players accountable.

Bullpen depth which was a crisis point last season that flared up in the playoffs was not addressed. Just imagine how bad things would be without Nate Pearson. This management team is in love with junk ball relievers who if not hitting their spots are tossing batting practice fastballs.

Now they seem convinced that you have to prioritize defence to win. Thats great if you want to play Tampa baseball and start manufacturing runs which this team still isn’t doing because they strike out a ton and aren’t bunting for hits often enough. The base running gaffs are atrocious. Having speed is great but not if you’re running into outs.

As far as I can tell Schneider is doing next to nothing to hold players accountable for egregious errors so it continues.

Putting Varsho in the cleanup spot was laughable.
…then people wonder why Vladdy is swinging at bad pitches.

I would suggest firing Schneider but would Shatkins even allow any manager to bench players? That’s an open question.

Bo Bichette has been the heart and soul of this team for years now but all he’s faced is disrespect from the team and fan base who constantly harp on his less than perfect defence despite the fact he can make highlight reel plays. Sure let’s trash one of the best young players in baseball who is one of the best hitters in the game because he’s a great athlete and elevate Kirk because you know he’s so cute at the plate looking like a chubby cat meme.

This organization right now is a joke.

Nobody is claiming the Jays won the trade, but to declare it the worst trade in Jays history after 50 games is……uhm…..

Some of this I agree with lol. You just seem so angry.
Schneider is absolutely awful. Time to cut him loose now before he does more damage. I mean pinch hitting for Varsho with a minor leaguer in a big spot is unforgivable. His bullpen management is beyond bad.
To be fair, their bullpen has been overused, but it’s not as bad as you are claiming.
I agree with the Bichette comments, although his defence is getting better, he needs to clean that up. He is the best hitter on the team.
Kirk is Kirk, when he’s hitting, no one will care about his weight.

I love when people with zero clue on baseball have hot takes and they get their asses handed to them like this. ^^^^
Let’s milk that 1.0 defensive WAR to death and ignore everything else because we all know that you win World Series with defence alone. Who needs to score runs? The new ballpark takes care of that right?

Im really confused because I bought season tickets believing the Jays were actually world World Series contenders…. At least according to the media…who just happened to also own the team. Of course there couldn’t possibly be a conflict of interest there. Silly me.

Im sure the Jays will reel off 30 consecutive wins any day now and their record against AL East opponents means absolutely nothing.

Manoa and Kirk will be all stars again despite their off season struggles at the plate and Joe Carter will come out of retirement to hit a magical home run in the playoffs.

You can win championships. All you need are unicorns, rainbows and Shatkins staying positive.

I mean if Rogers says the Jays are the greatest team in baseball history surely it must be true.

I’m not sure what your point is. Are you claiming Rogers has not tried to build a championship team?

Springer, Gausman, Berrios, Chapman just to name a few. Not sure how they are not committed to win.

One mistake may have been Schneider. I understand promoting from within, but maybe a veteran coach may have been the move.

If you bought season tickets because of Rogers’ marketing plan that’s on you. Of course they’re going to sell the team as competitive enough to win, but if you were a savy shopper you could have compared them to their competition.

I don't do anything based on a Rogers marketing plan. That would be foolish indeed.

Let's put it this way. False marketing is something Rogers has a reputation for. Not just in baseball.

Please show me how Varsho is a secret all star. LMFAO

The Blue Jays are really playing 4D chess.

Your reading comprehension skills are off the charts.

You are the one saying Moreno is already better than Kirk, and a superstar at that. There is plenty of data that says they’re about as good as each other right now, despite the fact that Kirk is struggling.

The mental gymnastics on display to suggest that Moreno is some elite hitter and Kirk… the guy who jumped from A ball to the majors… isn’t?

Let me get this straight.

Your current hot take is that a 50lb overweight slow as molasses Kirk with an OPS+ of 94 and WAR of 0.2 with a defensive WAR of 0 is superior to a fit Gabby Moreno with an OPS+ of 98, WAR of 1.2 including a defensive WAR of 0.8.

Both lack experience to be proficient at calling games which is one reason why the Kirk/Manoa tandem isn't working.

Do you know how many Arizona Diamondbacks fans would trade Moreno for Kirk straight up right now? Zero.

The worst part is that all they had to give up to get Moreno was Varsho. A future utility player.

And when you include pitch framing, they’re within 0.4 fWAR of each other which is a negligible difference. Same goes for Kirk being ahead of Moreno in wRC+ by 1.

Never mind other evaluative tools like Baseball Prospectus’ DRP that pushes Moreno into negative value territory.

The weight shit is overblown too.

Bengie Molina was overweight, often becoming the butt of jokes for it and yet still managed to have a successful 12 year career almost entirely behind the plate. (And somehow hit for the cycle in his later years)

Catcher and first base are like the two positions where athleticism doesn't generally matter but keep clinging to those delusions Moreno is better.

I can’t believe I’m wasting time responding to this angry drivel but Varsho is a 4 WAR/162 player for his career who is in a slump, not a ‘utility player’.

Atta f***in boy, Vladdy. The shit hit by Correa doesn't come back to haunt them like i was expecting.

I thought he was too fat to make those plays? weird.

Does that count as a NOBLETIGER?

No play ended with the bases loaded, but they kinda did have the bases loaded.

I think the bases have to be loaded when a guy comes up bat rather than what happened there.

the real question is Julien's gaffe a TOOTBLAN?

It’s hilarious because him and Shaner are loving the whole “it’s not a small sample anymore”, but are quick to throw out the last couple of years when evaluating players (Varsho, Kirk, Manoah, etc.). Meanwhile Moreno who hasn’t even taken off yet is somehow showing us what we’re missing?

But but Gurriel’s bat!

I’m sure they really, really wanted to keep him after last season’s performance.
