No one is saying Varsho is hitting well right now. We can all acknowledge that. But people acting like this trade is an automatic L when a) this is only third season with legit MLB time (played a full season last year and then only 95 in 2021) b) Moreno has done absolutely nothing of note in Arizona and c) the other guy who got thrown in to the deal is on an unsustainable heater that will absolutely not last the entire season based on previous track records.

and then for a bouns, pining for a guy in Teoscar who up until the last couple weeks had been one of the worst hitters in baseball while providing nothing of value elsewhere to replace hin.

It's the same shit that happened with Belt. Some people SCREAMED he was absolutely useless and lo and behold, he goes back to being a solid hitter since this is the first time he's been legit healthy probably since late 2020/early 2021.

WAR, OPS and just about every stat except defensive WAR show it’s a big L.

As it turns out offense matters. Because if you don’t hit you can’t score runs and if you don’t score runs Kevin Gausman has a losing record.

I would hardly call Belt a solid hitter with his strikeouts rate. He’s an ultra low contact hitter.

He was going to play in the WBC which the team gave him the green light because it's essentially spring training with stakes but then he pulled out because his fiancé was due.

Obviously, the Jays are not going to go the rest of the season playing that winning percentage. The question becomes, at what point do we do something if players like Varsho, Vladdy, Belt, Chapman, Kirk, Biggio et al continue to put up middling numbers? I'm sure Vladdy will figure it out, he's too good a hitter, he's just not right in the head right now. But the rest of them, who's going to hit well enough to get us into a playoff spot? This lineup inspires no confidence that they'll figure out. Is it the hitting coach telling them to swing at pitches outside the strike zone, early in the count?

Finally some reason.

There is no leadership with this team because it’s clear that some hard decisions need to be made but nobody is making them.

Manoa, Kirk should be sent to AAA for conditioning purposes and a mental reset. Varsho should be sent to AAA because he’s a minor league player. Vladdy should be demoted in the batting order until he starts taking his job seriously.

Both the hitting coach and conditioning coaches should be fired or if Atkins is getting in the way he should go.

somebody please tell me why Biggio is on this team? He’s not a major league player.

Bo and Gausman can’t carry this team on their shoulders by themselves although they’re doing a pretty good job of it.
