Because we have a terrible manager who doesn’t understand playing the hot hand when your team routinely struggles to produce runs. It’s the same reason Schneider sat on the bench for a week then was in and out of the lineup as the hottest hitter. He doesn’t get it.

Yes but it would have been three outs and inning over. That terrible call changed the outcome of the game completely. A terrible pitching staff was holding the jays in check until that point.

It’s a trivial moment that doesn’t truly define a game. It’s not like it was the bases loaded and the check swing directly brought in the game winning run. Those events happen all the time both for and against teams. I know for a fact it’s gone against the Jays and yet I can’t specifically reference a time when it happened. Unless we’re going to start adding plate line technology now this will continue to happen even with robots calling balls and strikes.

If your argument is to play the hot hand, you should also understand that Schneider didn't play much for a bit because after his amazing first three games he struck out 11 times in his next 21 PA. You're only the hot hand until you're not.

That's exactly it for me as well.

While I root for them to make the playoffs my excitement just isn't there because deep down I feel they got no shot at doing anything in the post-season. I've never been much of a "get in and anything can happen" guy, and hoefully the Jays can prove me wrong.

But as of right now it's kind of a "meh" watching this team trying to scratch and claw its way into the post-season. The only reason they still have a good shot is because it seems no other AL West team wants it all that much. I can't give the team much credit with a straight face. I mean we might be looking at a 7-6 record during this "easy" stretch of 15 games.

If the bats wake up especially with RISP, the pitching stays at their current level and the "Mighty Monoah" suddenly reappears....

Pitching is always the ticket that wins all the marbles. This is not the absolute best Jay's staff I've ever seen, but it's damn close. It's arguably the best overall staff in MLB today.

Gausman, Bassitt, Kikuchi, Barrios with Ryu and "crosses fingers" Monoah rejuvenated and that top level long relief staff is pretty scary. The one two punch of Hicks and Romano could someday be spoken with the same reverance afforded Duane Ward.

It really looks like it's all there.

Yea, something is wrong with their approach because they definitely made the first couple of pitchers for KC last night look like Cy Young candidates. How does 28th round pick Davis Schneider come here and show everyone up? These guys should be embarassed. BUT overall, they have looked much better the past little while hitting with RISP. Up to like 6th in the AL now.

I don’t think Manoah is returning this season. He’s not even pitching for the Bisons.

You suck, Varsho. You plug :sarcasm:

Meanwhile in Buck's mind we should go back to the 1900s where guys started 40 games and pitched 350 innings a year because everyone threw fastballs in the low 80s or nobody had massive wipeout sliders. The evolution of how guys pitch and how they maximize velo and movement on their pitches puts increased stress on their arms. Just because pitchers pitch fewer innings doesn't make them weak or babies or whatever, nor does it make management or front offices timid, spineless losers. It just means that this is how the game goes.

EDIT: and rather than blame front offices, I blame the manager. If my pitcher comes into the dugout and were to say something like "I'm fading and I think they're starting to square me up" I'd probably look at getting the pen going even if I was short my best relievers.

The Babe strikes out for the 2nd time today.

You know what that means right?

Johnny boy is going to bench him for the next 20 games.

Fun fact: Edward Olivares used to be a Blue Jays prospect. The Jays signed him from Venezuela and then 5 years ago traded him to San Diego for Yangervis Solarte.
