So good having Bichette back. Babe Schneider continues his amazing start to his career. I agree Merrifield has got to sit. How many RISP did he leave? 6? I know Schneider loves the guy, even had him hitting cleanup in the Oakland series, but he’s got to sit him for Clement. The time to play your favourites if they’re playing like crap has passed.

How does the new playoff format work again?

Is it better if the Jays stay in WC 3?

Seattle hasn’t been any better lately either.
They had a hot streak when they past us in the standing but they have come back down to earth too.

Yeah they’ve cooled off but I wanted to emphasize the Hou/Tex games because there was a lot of doom and gloom about the Jays not taking advantage of their sub .500 matchups, meanwhile these teams dropped g1 in their series against sub .500 teams.

Pretty much every game the rest of the way should have Bo, Vlad, Schneider, Springer, and one of Kiermaier/Varsho. Kirk too, but he's a catcher so it can't really happen.

The rest of the spots can rotate through between Merrifield, Biggio, Clement, Horwitz, etc. based on matchups and who's playing well and earning more time.

Unless the Rays collapse, WC2 would play the Rays and WC3 would play the Twins.
Yeah. Being in WC3 would be ideal not only because of this. But also because the winner of WC1 vs WC2 would play Baltimore in the DS and the winner of the Twins vs WC3 would play the winner of the West. Which would be an easier path..

Yeah, people tend to overreact to every loss against a bad team. They're frustrating, but they happen to every team all the time. If you put the best and worst teams in the league against each other in a three game series, chances are the worst team will win at least one.

Losing one game to Oakland doesn't define the team, it just kinda sucks. This is Texas's fifth series of the year against Oakland and they won't sweep them once.

Ohhh I might be thinking of someone else. I know there's another guy who's struggling.

Richards has been pounded since coming off the IL in mid-August.

Yeah, it’s like people expect that they’ll win every game against a bad team by 5 runs and this thread is a giant tantrum the whole way even if we win a close game.

The A’s and Royals regularly win 1/3 and keep other games close against the teams we’re competing against, too.

Like, this thread was 90% toxic rage on a night where the team had a good win and our rivals all lost.

Yes. Richards was who I was thinking of.

My bad.

Our destiny is definitely in our own hands right now.
We have 2 games left against one of the worst teams in the league and then our next 2 series are the 2 teams behind us in the standings.

What does Clement have to do to cement a spot?

He’s batting .425 with an ops over 1.000 and the AAA numbers with a .339 batting avg over a large sample is just as impressive

And he has a 222 wrc+ vs righties

How we can play Merrifield or Varsho over this guy, I can’t understand.

Clement should be in the lineup most nights at this point, but it's still only 42 PA. Merrifield has had a few rough weeks but is having a really good season and has a long track record while Biggio has been hitting well for months now.

The problem for Clement is that he's not the only one who's earned more playing time, so I would have a hard time saying he needs to be in the lineup every day.

Right, that's the other part I meant to mention... people aren't just expressing frustration at losses, they're genuinely pissed off when the team wins, but not emphatically enough or not in the way they want them to. It seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of how baseball has worked for 150 years.

Perfect night last night. Texas is absolutely disgraceful right now.

Another must win today

it cost them the game. He had every right to be pissed. Jays only won because of that blown call

There were still two outs when Bo, Vladdy, etc. came up. The check swing may have influenced the result but they still could’ve gotten out of it unscathed and failed to do so.

Because we have a terrible manager who doesn’t understand playing the hot hand when your team routinely struggles to produce runs. It’s the same reason Schneider sat on the bench for a week then was in and out of the lineup as the hottest hitter. He doesn’t get it.

Yes but it would have been three outs and inning over. That terrible call changed the outcome of the game completely. A terrible pitching staff was holding the jays in check until that point.

Ok champ. They won because of a terrible call by the first base ump who actually messed up the other Springer check swing call earlier as well in Soringers favour. He just managed to strike out on that one a pitch later. Without the ump you’re telling a different story about how even bad teams win. The bats were able to capitalize which is a nice surprise but let’s not pretend this was all the jays
