How are the draft picks high end if they're 31 and 37 and we picked up a 22-year old who was taken at 16 and is in the NHL and developing according to plan?

Newhook is now the fastest forward on our team, has plenty of untapped offensive upside and plays with a lot of jam. He's on the verge of breaking out with more opportunity on a team that isn't fighting for playoff positioning.

We all said that Habs needs to start trading quantity for quality, well that’s what it looks like.

Would Wood be a better option than Reinbacher if they traded down to say 8th and both were still there. I think the Habs would likely lean more for need there and take the RHD.

Reinbacher is a better prospect than Wood IMO. But I have Wood pretty much right after him. My top 10 is

2.) Carlsson
3.) Fantilli
4.) Michkov
5.) Smith
6.) Reinbacher
7.) Leonard
8.) Dvorsky
9.) Wood
10.) Cristall

And on the flipside of that. I wonder if the rumored 5 offers the Habs apparently have on the table from teams looking to move up to 5th want to get there to take Michkov if he's there.

It's crazy this year on this Michkov. Are the concerns valid ? Are the concerns overblown due to group think ? Has a very simple and obvious selection been made complicated ? Blah blah.

I really hope it's taken out of our hands and we have the chance to take Smith or Carlsson. These are projected legit 1Cs and while I agree we could use an elite player like Michkov is thought to be, scoring a 1C is also a huge piece for the team, which would give us one of the deepest top 6C depth in the league.

Whoever the scout Dreger was referring to this morning who said that in his opinion Michkov is the 2nd best player in this draft and if he were a part of the team in a position to draft him he'd be pounding the table for his team to draft him. That guy I want on the Habs scouting team.

In order to claim it’s a fleecing you’d also have to have knowledge on Alex Newhook.

Believe it or not I am aware, perhaps if you read my posts on the trade, you’d be aware that I also think we have far too many of the same type of player, I.e. the small, speedy forward, that we gave up too much on simply hoping his potential is unlocked by MSL (because it’s not always going to happen), and that I would have preferred simply keeping the picks.

Just a minute, I’m going to go back through my day book of entries of “how many times I’ve watched Alex Newhook, play” I always make sure to write down each one, just in case a message board hero/detective asks me that question.

Go be a Dick with someone else, I don’t have time for that nonsense today.

Carlsson has mostly played the wing the last two years and many don't see Smith as a center at the NHL level. Having said that, this Habs regime loves versatility up front so I won't be concerned about their playing position.

On draftkings Leonard, Michkov and Reinbacher are now all tied, this morning they had Leonard favorite.

But for 2nd overall Michkov went from +3200 to +400, Fantilli is still heavy favorite but that's a massive jump

I think HuGo’s best scenario is that someone else trades up with San Jose to grab Michkov and then we grab Carlsson / Smith at 5th.

If no else does it AND SJ doesn’t pick Michkov at #4 is where anything can happen.

For anyone not aware, TVA Sports will start their pregame coverage at 5:30PM ET. And I tend to watch the French coverage because they do have a more Habs-centric broadcast. Their cameras are always on the Habs table. They follow Hughes around if he starts visiting other teams' tables (I remember last year on Day 2 of the draft, he went to see Hextall at the Pens' table and then went to see Fitzgerald at the Devils' table).

And obviously, they will most likely have news and rumors on the Habs before others.
