Never going to happen but would you guys trade Slaf for 6OV?
Yes, but Slafkvosky’s profile as a player is really unicorn levels. If MSL pounds the table and says he can fix Slafkovsky I’ll trust him. If MSL says Slaf was not capable of catching up last year, I’d sell and pick up Dvorsky or something.

I don't think character issues. His skating is far from elite and there are some questions regarding his compete level. Very high hockey IQ though. Most Swedes are low maintenance when it comes to character issues.

I personally see Bedard as clearcut #1, Fantilli clearcut #2 and then it opens up some. I wouldn't be completely surprised to see one of Leonard, Reinbacher or Dvorsky go ahead of one of the consensus top 5 players. After months of NHL teams sandbagging, there are usually a couple of surprises.
At five you won’t get the perfect prospect. It is what it is. Carlsson can be a Mats Sundin (imagine…), I’d love to have him. I prefer him to Michkov. I prefer Michkov to Smith.

He also said he was surprised that anyone would think his play as an 18 year old was underwhelming and had a look on his face that read "holy f*** some people are clueless".

During the interview yesterday, Hughes looked like the goose that laid the golden egg. For sure he has something up his sleeve.

He isn't Sundin. Mats was the full package...a true franchise center. Leo might not even play center in The Show.

Agreed that you won't get the perfect prospect. There are question marks with all of them.

Carlsson has mostly played the wing the last two years and many don't see Smith as a center at the NHL level. Having said that, this Habs regime loves versatility up front so I won't be concerned about their playing position.
Lol. I appreciate the info. But I just don't get how we are reading about Carlsson and Smith as Cs, 1Cs, and then Carlsson not playing C for 2 years. Just like reading much later that Galchenyuk and KK hadn't been playing C the year they were drafted. Seems relevant.

If Carlsson drops all the way to 5 he must’ve had a ton of character issues. Am I right to think so?

Like Michkov right?
Not really.

I mean i could see a team gambling on Michkov. I mean the potential is there he was ranked 2nd for a long while before the war. I think a team gambling on Michkov means nothing about Carlsson's character. Fantali is just as good as Carlsson. They both would have gone first in some of the past draft years imo. A team going with Fantali means nothing. Then there's "Smith And The BMX Gang". Obviously a team going for Smith or Reinbacher or Leanard instead of Carlsson would be very weird. But then LA went with Byfield 2nd in 2020 instead of Stutzle and i suspect kirktr might have been the reason they did so and it was a mistake by then imo and a potentially huge one. Carlsson is a no brainer at 5th you don't even think twice about it.

Friedman and Seravalli both said on their podcasts this morning that Pat Verbeek is the type to not give a f*** and draft who he thinks is best and not let any outside noise impact what he decides.

They didn’t say the Ducks taking him was probable or likely but both wondered if he just might do it.

I'll keep an eye on this.....but this was said this morning and the odds just changed drastically in the last hour. Last year it did the same with Slafkovsky.

On Fanduel, Michkov is now 2nd most probable at 2nd overall.
Both sites, major shift.

I relly dont see how Leo falls to us , one can dream I suppose

I predicted that scenario, but the more I think about, the less I see Grier gambling. Ex-goon, new GM, f***ing elated to have made it, started from the bottom now we here... he's going to pick the safe player (Carlsson).

McMichaels is worth Future Considerations at best.
Again McMichael is worth whatever potential HuGO see in him. Laviolette at the end of his tenure had no guts and stuck with his worthless veterans so HuGo can only go on what they think his celing is.

Leonard will be pick by Coyotes if available at 6.
So it would be Dvorsky or Reinbacher or Benson at 7. Which sucks

I'd rather Michkov > Reinbacher + Gauthier.

100pts forward potentially or 30 pts defenceman and 3rd-4th liner.
I LOVE leonard but Benson and Dvorsky are not that huge of a drop.

For anyone not aware, TVA Sports will start their pregame coverage at 5:30PM ET. And I tend to watch the French coverage because they do have a more Habs-centric broadcast. Their cameras are always on the Habs table. They follow Hughes around if he starts visiting other teams' tables (I remember last year on Day 2 of the draft, he went to see Hextall at the Pens' table and then went to see Fitzgerald at the Devils' table).

And obviously, they will most likely have news and rumors on the Habs before others.
The TVA Sports guy following Hughes around everywhere and being completely prepared just in case Hughes suspects someone is indeed following him around and is about to turn around to check. :)
