Any possibility we move back from 5th to a team wanting someone other than Michkov?
Curious if we could possibly move back twice and end up getting someone at #9 or #10 that we like and extra picks for it. Realize it's highly unlikely but would be some good tv drama tonight.
AKA the @Adam Michaels snowball strategy. Highly risky if you’re not caffeinated enough. Snooze and you end up with 30 worthless picks!

What if Carlsson’s there, do they move down too?
Whatever we do, we better not trade 5 until the draft floor.

There are varying degrees of possibility that the player available at 5 is Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov or Smith.

I think the only one I would even remotely consider moving back on is Smith. And that is if we are completely in love with Leonard or Reinbacher for some reason.

It would have to be to Philly for 7 and 22.

I think teams wanting to move to 5 may also be waiting to see what is left at 5 though and their offers shift accordingly.

Should be exciting either way.

Why should the Habs entertain offers for 5? Do like SJS and don’t pick up the phone.
Cause it's their job.

Are you telling me that if the Flyers offer (not saying they will) Cutter Gauthier and the 7th, the Habs shouldn't even consider it

Especially if they have another player they like as much as Michkov?

Y’all wild.

You guys seem to know a whole lot about a player even NHL teams haven't seen or as much as 1 week ago, haven't even spoken too yet.

Hughes isn't going to pull the trigger too early, he's too smart for that.

He'll wait until the four picks ahead of him are in and then check his phone.... I bet one or more GM will be calling and he'll only have a few minutes to consult with his scouts (pro and amateur) ... I can see Montreal getting a HAUL for the #5 pick at the last minute! :)
If he is considering trading the pick the deal has already been agreed to pending Michkov being there at 5.

I want Mitchov.

Reading the pundits (specially Frank), it is evident that they are not eyeing him at all. It’s Smith or trade down for the popcorn guy. My hot take of the day. As soon as Smith is off the board, a trade will go down. Part of my hot take.
My hot take time now..

If Hughes passes on Michkov @ 5 it'll go down as being his biggest mistake by far during his time as the Habs GM and the thing that he'll be forever remembered for when people ask about what they remember most about Hughes time as the Habs GM years from now.

Well maybe not but I do like being dramatic sometimes. :)

I think the issue for some fans is that last summer this draft was talked about as the Bedard-Michkov draft and were salivating at the thought of being able to draft one of these guys. Today, despite having the #5 overall pick we may still get a chance to draft one and to not do it because of non-hockey related reasons is a tough pill to swallow. That said, we're going to get a good player regardless and it is certainly not worth getting hung up on it.
Last year was supposed to be the Shane Wright draft. The pecking order of teenage hockey players is very fluid and changes constantly throughout their development years which are still far from complete for these kids.

Last year I believe it was Bobby Mac who called each pick before it was made.

So, if you have twitter, give him a follow if you haven't already for some reason

When you miss out on Bedard but then realise you have a shot at Michkov

He did that because they didn't put him on a certain telecast. He was being a bitch about things. That ruined the draft for most fans and I hope it never happens again.

Petry for Matheson anyone?

I remember many here who were questionning the Petry trade last year, some even calling it garbage. One year later, here we are.

Let that be a caution for those who are trashing the Newhook acquisition. Let's see how it plays out. He wasn't my favorite trade target either, but there is upside and we'll see how he does after one season with us.

Anyway, back to the Michkov rah rah rah.

Habs and Sharks had talks about swapping picks and found out the cost would be astronomical, a non-starter.
If the cost to move up from 5 to 4 was astronomical that should bode well for the Habs if teams want to move up multiple spots to 5 which should make the cost even more astronomical especially if all of these teams have their eyes set on grabbing Michkov there.

I watched all Wright’s playoff games and it was patently obvious something was going wrong or very off for a 1OA.
