I'm just imagining a team passing over Yzerman or Kucherov because they already have short players. I just can't get behind it. They'll have years of trading and drafting for size still. But, if the geopolitical risk isn't significant in their view, then this is an opportunity that presents itself once in a blue moon. We seem to be lucky enough that it's only been 4 years since a superstar fell into our laps.
If they pass it IS because the geopolitical risk is more than they are willing to accept and/or they didn't like his attitude.

I said yesterday I feel like Sharks are taking Leonard.

Bedard
Fantilli
Smith
Leonard
Carlsson
Reinbacher
Dvorsky
Michkov
I think the only player Habs could realistically get at 5 that the base and this board will celebrate while passing on michkov, is Carlsson. The fact that Smith is an American from Mass who plays college is very enticing for an Ohio based team in Columbus. Hopefully sharks like what Leonard has to offer

As Barry Trotz, general manager of the Nashville Predators, previously pointed out, the Canadiens hold the key to the draft.

It seems increasingly clear that there are only two possible scenarios for the Canadian: either they choose Matvei Michkov with their fifth overall selection, or they exchange this choice with another team in a monster transaction.

If the Habs do indeed have 5 offers on the table for teams to move up to 5 (to most likely grab Michkov) I also hope that makes them realize that maybe, just maybe they should stay @ 5 and take the guy themselves if that many teams want the guy that badly.
Hypothetically, what if the flyers trade sanheim to improve 22 to top 15 and then we get 7 and 15 I’d be estatic

Hughes said Michkov had a good interview and he was mature. Martineau talked with him for 10 minutes and said there was no attitude during that time.

A bunch of teams are trying to move up.

No one else, other than Nicolishin, has corroborated the bad attitude thing but WSH is nevertheless trying to move up to grab him.

Smoke and mirrors.

If the Habs pass on Michkov it’s because someone like Smith or Carlsson is available.

Can you imagine passing on a guy that comes over in 3 years and starts posting 90+pts seasons?

So you got 5 teams wanting our pick with the intention of drafting Michkov. Should tell you how there are a good bit of teams who are willing to take the risk that we apparently aren't going to do.

Yep. After reviewing tape and hearing all these rumors, I'm finding very hard to defend passing over Michkov. I wont bash the player they'll select, as I like a number of them after 5, but management will be under the spotlight for a few years if they do that.

yes, why not take him...and then discuss a TRADE with the rest of the NHL ...
