Seravalli usually pretty good with his rumours/inside sources.. if we are trading #5, we better be milking them and generate a huge bidding war
That is how i see it too. You dont move down unless a massive over payment, and a mid 1st rd and meh prospect isn't that. 5 offers means bidding war, which is good.

They just tell Philadelphia beat reporters that they want michkov bad. It’s just a smokescreen.
Imagine Michkov is there at 7 and Washington thinks Philly will nab him? I mean it ultimately depends on how bad they want him. But Michkov doesn't feel like a Philly player to me. Dvorsky does, they need some better centers in their pipeline too.

The lack of logic is irritating. We're not gonna compete anytime soon, so whatever extra small unimportant players we have, they'll be gone by then.

You draft for talent, not for size.

I'm just imagining a team passing over Yzerman or Kucherov because they already have short players. I just can't get behind it. They'll have years of trading and drafting for size still. But, if the geopolitical risk isn't significant in their view, then this is an opportunity that presents itself once in a blue moon. We seem to be lucky enough that it's only been 4 years since a superstar fell into our laps.

I don’t think Michkov is making it past 5. Whether that’s the Habs or not is another question — if they sell and Michkov hits on his potential, it’ll be unforgivable.
All I know that is he’s not falling out of the First Round today. Here’s the score up to now:

In my limited viewings this is what I saw. I didn't want to face a barrage of hate for it cuz I don't have the time lol.

I saw shift by shift video of one game and I did see Patty Kane there at his best. I did have to remind myself that this is his draft year and he's doing it in the KHL which is pretty amazing.

I felt slightly underwhelmed by other things I saw. I think I just didn't see a sure fire guarantee that some/many seem to think.

If they can get a helluva package from whoever to trade down then I'd be okay with it. But I would TOTALLY get it if there's a meltdown.
I wouldn't join in on it, especially if we got Reinbacher, but I won't be trying to shout down the pitchfork mob. I think we'd be in great shape personally.

It's all gonna be pretty exciting I think.
He’s not a perfect prospect and he’s not a surefire guarantee to make it but he’s got upside we’ve never seen and he’s within grasp (possibly)… this is scoring upside we’re so desperate for that we can’t even picture the last prospect we had with this much potential.

Of course fans have every right to be mad if they skip him. We’ve been tanking and/or mediocre and/or boring for pretty much all of my life (I’m in my mid 30s!) — my sarcastic question to Geoff Molson is: can we pretty fkn please have an exciting superstar forward? Is it too much to ask?

So, if we are trading down, this is how I feel about the teams below us:

Arizona: I wouldnt want to trade with them unless the return is substantial along with the #6. Why? Well, I dont think they are a team interested in Mitchkov. They tend to make picks based on who they feel will want to play for them. I dont see Mitchkov wanting to leave Russian to play for such an organization. I see them targetting Leonard.

Philly: this is where it geta interesting. I think they are going to be in a bidding war with Washington. Philly stating they like Leonard along with Mitchkov feels like threat. "If you trade the 8th to WSH, we will take Leonard before you." If Arizona takes Leonard, I can see Philly taking Reinbacher, leaving us with Dvorsky. Not a bad outcome, but I wouldnt want to drop any lower than 8th. Philly could get us 7th, 22nd and Hart with a small add on our side. I would deal with them.

WSH: see above. I dont know much about their prospect pool, but their 8th is as far as I would want to drop. Dvorsky and a top quality asset is needed here.

Having said all this, we could play 4D chess and trade 5th to Arizona, and when they pick Leonard, trade the 6th to whomever has the best package between PHI or WSH.

I think I'm just high enough on Caufield and to a bit lower extent *ducks*... Slaf to not be beating down the door for Michkov.

And I'm not saying I'm right here at all. These are just my personal feelings and I know I'm saying all the wrong things and I'm willing to be raked over the coals for it.

With all that being said though, they should take him and if they don't they better be getting a pretty siginificant sum coming back.

yeah I've been watching since 88-89 and all I have is Kovalev 07-08. That's it lol. Radulov came close. Erik Cole came close. Mats Naslund and Richer. I took a bit of a hiatus from 94-00 so I missed pre-injury Koivu. But yeah it is insane.

Can I repeat this...why would you deal right now when you don't know who is still available. Unless Hughes has already confirmed with the 4 teams ahead of him who they will pick.
they won't necessarily, but they could agree to a deal in principle with another team and only announce it depending on who is left. Obviously there's some danger in doing that, but i'm sure it's been done many times before.
