I said it when I heard Philly could be offering 7+22+ and I'll gladly say it again... as much as I want Michkov, if management is 100% set on not taking him at least they can milk his value in a bidding war between other teams and squeeze value out of him.

The only way I lose my mind tonight is if they straight up just pass on Michkov to draft Leonard/Reinbacher at 5. Philly and Washington are solid trade down candidates because we can still get one of Leonard/Reinbacher/Dvorsky/Benson guaranteed.
My take as well, i trust the scouting staff and like the concept of getting michkov but if they dont like him I'm comfortable to continue accumulating value

Hughes had a tough choice at 5, but maybe other GM's will make it easy for him...

It's so tough for Hughes, that Briere will go up to the podium at 5 to make the selection for him:

"With the 5th Overall selsection, Kent Hughes is proud to select.... from the Oshawa Generals: Calum Ritchie!"

Grant McCagg predicted Carlsson falling to 5 on twitter. Also said he thinks Habs trade down. He nailed his predictions last year, but I don’t see both of those things happening, either one or the other.

I think these predictions are mutually exclusive; Carlsson seems to be, by far, the most complementary core piece potentially available at #5 and if he somehow falls within the Habs’ grasp and they nevertheless accept to trade down, the incentive to do so would have to nothing short of insane for the acquiring team.

I could however (reluctantly) see the Habs trading down 2-3 spots if it’s Michkov who’s still in the board at #5 and the offer is… outrageous.

So they draft Slaf saying it would be a win if they didn't push for size later on and now Dreger says having Newhook now means there are too many smaller players if they take Michkov.

How about this idea? Who cares about RHP, Farrel or Newhook. If size is an issue, you keep the ones who matter, likely Caufield and Michkov. The rest can be dealt.

I can understand the contract risk and geopolitical risk. The rest seems to be a lot of overthinking and this is where they're losing me lately.

The lack of logic is irritating. We're not gonna compete anytime soon, so whatever extra small unimportant players we have, they'll be gone by then.

You draft for talent, not for size.

I don’t think Michkov is making it past 5. Whether that’s the Habs or not is another question — if they sell and Michkov hits on his potential, it’ll be unforgivable.
I think so too.. why I say that... a GM will get trigger happy when his name is out there.

SJ still seems to me the team that gets the 150 lb russian

I said yesterday I feel like Sharks are taking Leonard.

Bedard
Fantilli
Smith
Leonard
Carlsson
Reinbacher
Dvorsky
Michkov
I think it is a possibility as well. This could turn out amazing for the Habs. If Leo slides they almost certainly would not trade down or pass him up. That big C we always needed and actually has crazy upside.

Nilan says “it seems like 1–10 this year you are getting a very good player that will play.” McCagg goes “unless maybe if you pick Michkov.” Paraphrasing of course. He then went on to compare Michkov to obscure Russian prospects and Yakupov for reasons he is unlikely to pan out.

He was a part time scout with the Habs from 2009-2011.

And people wonder why those years were some of the worst ever.

He’s got Bedard level upside but his game is not perfect, his physical stature is not perfect, and his risk profile is not perfect. He can only be a top6 player to boot.

Overall, as a prospect, he has more downside risk than the other three of the top5.

With that said, his upside is what we should be looking toward as Habs fans because despite his downside risks he is still one of the top5 prospects and overall significantly better than the 6th ranked prospect and later.
In my limited viewings this is what I saw. I didn't want to face a barrage of hate for it cuz I don't have the time lol.

I saw shift by shift video of one game and I did see Patty Kane there at his best. I did have to remind myself that this is his draft year and he's doing it in the KHL which is pretty amazing.

I felt slightly underwhelmed by other things I saw. I think I just didn't see a sure fire guarantee that some/many seem to think.

If they can get a helluva package from whoever to trade down then I'd be okay with it. But I would TOTALLY get it if there's a meltdown.
I wouldn't join in on it, especially if we got Reinbacher, but I won't be trying to shout down the pitchfork mob. I think we'd be in great shape personally.

It's all gonna be pretty exciting I think.

Rarely get mad on here but Grant McCagg is a jerkoff. It’s so bad faith how they’re smearing Michkov — the kid has done nothing wrong. Hasn’t said a wrong word, hasn’t made any “political” comments, nothing. But they go out of their way to smear him.

Bullies.

What player does it sounds like ?

Sounds like Smith. Basically Drouin. No shot, no contact and no D.

McCagg and our very own triple crown. Same same but a tad different.
