terrible fashion sense, lol, I actually thought that with his arrival in NY photo. I thought, jesus, is Russia trapped in the 1990s.

Michkov tonight at the draft:

So, if Michkov is the second best player in the draft, why would the teams ahead of the habs (except for Chicago) pass on him? And why is that reason not sufficient for the habs to go with someone else?
Everyone sucks except Michkov and nobody knows anything including NHL scouts except for hfboards habs fans.

It's just that simple.

So they draft Slaf saying it would be a win if they didn't push for size later on and now Dreger says having Newhook now means there are too many smaller players if they take Michkov.

How about this idea? Who cares about RHP, Farrel or Newhook. If size is an issue, you keep the ones who matter, likely Caufield and Michkov. The rest can be dealt.

I can understand the contract risk and geopolitical risk. The rest seems to be a lot of overthinking and this is where they're losing me lately.
Plus, I don’t think Dreger knows Michkov and Newhook’s size.

Hughes said Newhook is thick like Crosby.

What I don't get is if Michkov is this good why is he falling to us?

And if 3 teams are that worried about the Russia thing then why shouldn't we?

I'm legit asking. It's just weird to me that he's Bedard level apparently yet he can fall that far.
This is a repeat of 2022. So many in here want the player who was a phenom at age 16 and completely ignore all the flaws AND the non-hockey obstacles that go with the kid.

He isn't anywhere close to Bedard level. The teams in front of us all went full tank-mode in hopes of a small percent lottery chance at Bedard. Now these same teams will pass on a player who is Bedard-level just because it will take 3 years to get him? It's crazy how emotions can take over one's common sense. Love is blind.

I'll be totally fine if the Habs take Michkov after doing their due diligence, having a head scout closely connected to his team in Russia, and actually having met and interviewed the kid. I can't imagine living in any alternate reality however where I go into complete denial mode about the complex situation at play and lose my shit if they don't take him. That's just being emotionally messed up in the head and in desperate need of therapy.

To think because Habs took Newhook they can’t take Michkov, makes me believe Dreger thinks Habs management are complete idiots. Maybe Dreger knows something we don’t know about their intellectual swiftness.
Everywhere yesterday I saw people making connections between the Newhook acquisition and Michkov.

I don't get it.

If the Habs manage to draft Michkov, he won't be here for another 3 years.

Who knows where or what Newhook will be in 2026.

He might not even be on this roster for all we know.

I am kind of hoping teams end up overthinking things and Carlsson drops to us.
Carlsson and Benson are my choices, for sure. I don't think Carlsson drops, but I have him at #2 in the draft. I would be thrilled.

I still can't believe a player let Benson gets looked over so much. The guy is absolutely a guy who you win with. He's the Yzerman or Sakic of this draft (aside from playing C).

I agree, the over the top reactions I'm not a fan of. I can also understand passing on him due to non hockey related risks. Heck, while I disagree, I could even understand if they decided to go with someone else because they didn't see MM as the BPA, though they would make themselves open to criticism+++ if they turn out to be wrong (with reason too). The latest things Im hearing are grating on my nerves however (lack of developmental control, size, defense).

So the Avs have swapped Johansen and Colton for Compher and Newhook. They look to have upgraded so far for the upcoming year

Remains to be seen. They traded away Newhook, who was a 30-point player in the two years he played in the NHL and brought in Ross Colton, who is a 30-point player, but is also 4 years older.

Johansen is the wildcard because he's real good, but the gripe with him is his effort level isn't always there.

Not a bad bit of business at all for Colorado. Colton is an awesome bottom 6er and probably a better fit for them than Newhook for what they need. Plus still have the 31st. Really really nice

I had a feeling they would use the picks to bolster their roster. But, since I didn't post about it, it makes me look like a dirty, dirty liar.
