Yeah, I do honestly think this is how it's going to play out in the end. The 4 you mentioned will be gone, we're going to play a game of chicken with Briere and convince him we're taking Michkov unless they trade.

Because really, that's the only way this works. Why would Philly trade up with us if they don't think we're going to take Michkov and run? They could just wait and get him for free if not.

Kent's going to need his poker face.

I don't think it's so much about the guy we're picking, but that other team right behind them want him.

If he's not willing to make a deal someone else will, and at that point it becomes how badly do you want your guy. If I were Philly and believed Michkov is the 2nd best player in the draft, and I do, I would trade up for him and not question losing pick 7 and 22, even hart.

If Russia still played in international competitions, he would be going #2. I don't doubt it for a 2nd. The question is will we find our Romanov in round 3 or 4 this year.

Nobody knows if he will hit 90, same with Bedard. But his resume gives no reason to expect anything less than a star player. Michkov has:

-Set the point per game record in Russia's U16 league

-Set the D-2 scoring record in the MHL, passing Kucherov's record.

-Set the D-1 scoring record in the MHL, and won the MHL championship.

-Put up 0.74 points per game in the KHL in his draft year, which is the highest points per game by an under-19 player in KHL history.

-Outproduced both Bedard and Wright at the 2021 U18 championships, earning tournament MVP.

7 and 22 is a no brainer for Brière to get to 5. If he sniffs that we might pass he just needs to stay put. No way Arizona would get Michkov to go play in an arena in the middle of the desert that’s 2x smaller than the Barys Astana rink in Kazakhstan.

Honestly we cant. But what he showed as of now is way better than all the other prospects.

Even if he becomes just a 60pts player, that still put him ahead of f***in Reinbacher.

What else am I missing :sarcasm:

So, if Michkov is the second best player in the draft, why would the teams ahead of the habs (except for Chicago) pass on him? And why is that reason not sufficient for the habs to go with someone else?

I really think we go with Michkov if he's sitting at our spot. He has the potential to win hart trophies once McDavid retires, :sarcasm:

So they draft Slaf saying it would be a win if they didn't push for size later on and now Dreger says having Newhook now means there are too many smaller players if they take Michkov.

How about this idea? Who cares about RHP, Farrel or Newhook. If size is an issue, you keep the ones who matter, likely Caufield and Michkov. The rest can be dealt.

I can understand the contract risk and geopolitical risk. The rest seems to be a lot of overthinking and this is where they're losing me lately.
