Fun part is that it was not a problem giving low 1st round and 2nd roudner 31 and 37 'cause you know picks rarely gives great players. Yet, if Hughes trade 5 for 7 and 40...SUDDENLY 40 will have huge value?
I'm not sure what you mean...in this scenario, they'd be trading down with Philly, the Flyers own the 7th and 22nd picks overall.

So in this scenario, if the Habs like Leonard or Reinbacher (for example) as much as they like Michkov and the Flyers are willing to send the 7th and 22nd picks overall.

Then I can understand why they'd trade down in that scenario.

The ONLY way I'm fine with taking Reinbacher tonight is if they trade down and potentially acquire a young forward in doing so.

I'd be FINE with Leonard at 5. I'm part of the Michkov Machine obviously but I do (deep down) feel like they're not going to take him, just with all of the speculation and what people are saying. I know we like to pretend that nobody knows anything, but the smoke about them taking Slaf over Wright last year got very, very thick in the day/hours leading up to the draft.

If I had to bet money, my guess is that they do trade down with Philly to get 7. I would only do it for an overpay, but then they'd end up with either Leonard or Reinbacher, something I think they'd be very okay with internally. Just depends on what else Philly would give us to trade up.

I remember this board when we drafted Collberg. You’d think we drafted Forsberg 2.0.

absolutely, I thought we snagged a 30 goal scorer, lol. I think that's why I don't mind the Newhook deal. The odds of landing a Subban or Romanov don't seem that high based on our draft history.

After the top 20 guys this year I find the talent falls of a cliff.

Day is finally here. Booked the next two days off work, wife is at work then girls night. Got a bottle of Woodford Reserve ready to go. It's too wet to mow the lawn like planned (3 hour ordeal), so now I have to read all you beauties to keep busy until I crack and pour my first bourbon.

We're glad you can spend more time in this madhouse.

7 and 22...fine with me. That's the ONLY deal I'd made. 8 and 40...forget it with the Caps.

The reality is that the rumors are flying Columbus takes Smith and SJ would then run to the podium and takes Carlsson. Only chance it happens is if columbus is throwing smoke and still takes carlsson

I'm happy that we stayed at 5 after the lottery. There was a fair chance we would slip to 6 or 7. Staying at 5 is the good news.

Agreed. I would want something we can't refuse to move down but I would not move any further than 8. However, I would just stay at 5 because teams behind us are not going to give us something we can't refuse. It's just talk right now.

I don’t see it.

Hughes knows Newhook and that doesn’t mean he won’t trade him but the way they (Hughes and MSL) talked about him, that’s clearly not the plan.

At first I thought Newhook, under 6’, ment they were going Reinbacher at 5(or trade down to get Reinbacher). But then Hughes said “he plays heavy”. So I am back to Michkov at #5.

He is just better and all this bad attitude bs is going away.

Hughes said the interview went well. Martineau had 10 minutes with him and said his attitude was fine.

I think SJ is still a possibility, which would give the Habs either Michkov or Smith. I am hoping for Michkov but I’d be happy with Smith too.
Anything is possible. I really have confidence in them compared to Bargainbin though

Didn’t mean to bring up Newhook in that fashion. We already have two threads discussing that.

Was just hoping not to see Sakic killing it with those picks tomorrow, is all.
even if he does, I don't believe they'll be better then Newhook, you never know but what we do know is this kid is a SC champion and can put up points. I can only imagine how well he'll do under MSL.

I remember at the draft when I was a fan and was hoping we'd select him at our position, well, it was between him and Harley. We were then gifted Caufield.

Now we have Caufield, Dach and Newhook from that draft....the rest is history they say

There’s something metaphysical if the Flyers are the ones that get Michkov while we
Every Habs fan leaving Michkov threads on the mainboards in 2026

"imagine passing on a 110 pt player lol"

"As a leaf fan I really love that they passed on Michkov"

"Couldn't have happened to a better fanbase lol f*** the habs"

"Halak, Ryder, and a 2nd is still better than Michkov I guess hahahah"

"LOL if only he was French they'd have a generational talent hahaha French French French France bonjour looool"

f*** me can't wait
Leaf fans will murder us with one liners. 20 years from now, our kids and grandkids will look at HockeyDB and just scratch their heads. It will give Flyers fans cosmic retribution after the Caufield debacle. I’m getting my popcorn. Lol
