On 32 thoughts podcast released a few mins ago. Friedman says lots of team think the habs are going to trade down

I was wondering if the Newhook trade was a prelude to this since Hughes has not been shy saying he wanted more 1st rounders and no player on the roster is likely to bring one.

Cory Pronman just released his latest mock with The Athletic this morning.

Has us taking Reinbacher and notes “the league is convinced the Habs won’t take Michkov.”

The people he has talked to around the league are convinced it’s either Reinbacher or Leonard for us.
Mise-o-jeu odds were updated to say the same:

that's sad, mostly because as a child my dad would put small hooks on my line so I can catch a few if we didn't land any pickerel or bass.
Yeah they got poached out during their spawn and have never fully recovered. This is going back 40 years people would set up their lines with multiple treble hooks and jig them as they schooled during spawn. I'm not sure if the practice continues today but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. There are very few enforcement agents in Quebec. To give you an idea a few years back I was speaking with some of them and they were two guys patrolling the entire Richelieu river from Lake Champlain to Sorel/Tracy

for me it's Smith. Better playmaker but I'm no expert.

I have only watched them a little bit so I can't act like an expert as well. My gut tells me it's Smith as well.

I was wondering if the Newhook trade was a prelude to this since Hughes has not been shy saying he wanted more 1st rounders and no player on the roster is likely to bring one.

Eddy with 50% retention might get us a late 1st if a contender still has their pick around that range.

There is likely a lot of chatter with other GM's and seeds planted but no deal until draft day. Teams have their draft board/targets and if they are gone before they pick, they might make the trade. That kind of thingy

Ian Cole probably to Vancouver.

Bogosian on the block.

Friedman says keep an eye on Dvorak. Says there isn't much of a role for him anymore with so many centres.

He says he thinks you'll see more interesting names not given a QO, aside from Comtois

I think there will be some serious drama and trades in the top 10 picks......the habs will have options....everyone seems to think we will trade down.............very interesting to see what we get to do so....

He also had this tweet. Sounds like their intentions could be to take Michkov, but things are fluid and it's impossible to know for sure since no one knows what offers they'll receive.

I follow him too but to be fair he called Wright last year. He's probably the only account I actually believe the rumors

I'm going to willfully ignore that and instead continue to fuel my Michkov fantasy thanks guys but I need to cope just a little longer

Lets trade a 100pts player for a 60-70 pts player and a 20s pick that has 80% chance to not make it.

If we knew that for sure, nobody moves the pick. The issue is nobody knows the future that well. I'm neutral on this. I can see both sides of the fence.

All I can say is we are in the drivers seat. The offers has to be something we can't refuse. I'm definitly leaning towards keeping it simple and just taking one of Michkov or Smith. Or Fantilli/Carlsson if they slip. One of those 4 and keep it simple. BPA

just terrible wildlife management, honestly, fisherman can be some of the most obnoxious people. I remember casting from the shore, to kill a night, and people would be upset if you release your catch.

I was at the draft last year and not paying any attention to this board.

Was the 30 years of pent up cynicism as evident then?

Best angle we can take is tell other GM's we are open to moving the pick but not too far back. Make your offers and it has to be something we can't refuse. Otherwise, we stay put.

I'm 85% sure we keep the 5th pick. The drama will be if Michkov is still there at 5. If he is taken before, I think the trade drama fades. Michkov is creating all of this IMO.

I'd be very happy if we get Michkov. Imagine if there was no war and we got the 2nd pick... and Michkov was just as dominate as Bedard at the WJC. Unfortunately, I think the Ducks, Blue Jackets, and Sharks are thinking about Michkov too.

imagine trading down to 7to 9 and Michkov is once again available for our pick.

We probably gonna trade down like its some sort of allergies we better run away from

We risked in taking Galchenyuk (did not play in his draft year), and failed.
We risked in taking Kotkaniemi (he was a reach because we needed a C), and we failed
We risked in taking A. Kostitsyn (a player with medical issue from a country producing few NHL players), and we failed.
And Caufield was not a risk at 15 after dropping there. He was then the obvious pick. Price was a risk.
Risking is not always the way to go.
Michkov is literally the furthest thing from a risk from a hockey playing standpoint. The others are all chumps relative to him.

The "risk" is the country of origin of the player, and even that is being overblown if we're being honest to ourselves.

Pick Michkov and run... hopefully.

Oh I know the looks I would get when releasing trout in front of their faces when they had zero chance of ever catching one because of the current. :biglaugh:
