“I understand Canada has a lot of good players, but he has the type of game that complements high-end players. He has the ability to create and play in a lot of different ways,” said Langenbrunner.

“I think he’ll be in the mix,” said Gold. “One thing I would give him credit for is there is some versatility to his game, where he can play the wing, and I can see him helping their team even if he’s not the one C. He’s a player that can play different roles in different spots in the lineup.”

Poitras will end up with Pastrnak or Nylander (assuming he makes it to FA)

Just when you think the Bruins have the worstest farm system in NHL Donny goes yard

I’m fine with Zacha on wing

What's the infatuation with Nylander? He is the antithesis of a puck hound type player. Granted he can get to the soft spots on the ice but he neither has the shot nor the puck protection to play the type of game the B's play. Do you see some upside as more than what he's shown to-date or do you think the B's are cool with a taller/leaner Kessel type who has a ton of skill but won't fight for position or recovery on the boards? Curious what you're seeing there as a bonafide $8M+ asset which is what his production will demand on the open market.

David Pastrnak’s eyes were a wee bit red and blurry after finishing up his first Bruins captains’ practice Monday afternoon at Warrior Arena.
The Bruins’ prolific-scoring right winger had a good reason for the look; he was running on very little sleep after flying in from Czechia Sunday.
“Hey, it’s good to be back, obviously,” said Pastrnak. “Long travel yesterday. So, good to be back and shake off the jet lag, get things started. Excited.”
There was nothing blurry about Pastrnak’s on-ice performance, however, as the 61-goal scorer showed off his customary elite acceleration and shooting during the skills-and-scrimmage session.
Pastrnak welcomed a baby daughter in June and devoted much of his summer to honing his parental skills in his native Czechia.

“It’s been amazing,” he said. “Obviously turn your life around and obviously it’s been great. Had the time to spend with my family this summer and we call it the perfect timing and we are enjoying every day, so it’s been amazing.”

“There’s a lot of spots to be taken and opportunities,” said Pastrnak. “So, we play with Pav, same language, same nationality. It’s a very easy transition to play with him. He’s a very smart hockey player. He can adapt.

“Not every hockey player has that talent to adapt to the other players, and he has it. So I think it’s going to be very easy for him to add a bit of playing center or on the wing or [with new linemates]. I obviously had some great games with him and got to know him a lot. So, excited to see what he’s got for us this year.”

Though Patrice Bergeron and Krejci, both of whom served as pivots for Pastrnak, are gone, Pastrnak was happy to see the return of a familiar — and friendly — face in Milan Lucic.

“I’m so happy to have him back,” said Pastrnak. “It’s been a long time since we’ve been on the team, but I always remember my first couple of years, he’s one of those guys that helped me to get as a human being and a player to where I’m at.

“I was really sad. I still remember the day he got traded, and so he brings some memories back and I’m really excited to have him back, obviously, just like the whole city is.”

Brad Marchand strutted down the catwalk with the same confidence and coolness he flashes when steaming down the right wing, picking a corner on the goalie, or barreling into an opponent along the boards.
The Bruins’ veteran smiled and spiraled across the runway at the club’s Centennial Takeoff fashion show at the JetBlue hangar Saturday night, working the crowd much the way he works over adversaries on a nightly basis during the NHL season.
As he so often is, Marchand was the pacesetter.
“I was just watching Marchy in the back do all these different poses, so I just tried to take a couple from him,” said fellow Bruin and model, Brandon Carlo, one of three Bruins, along with Milan Lucic, who showed off the club’s three special jerseys for its centennial season.

With the Bruins set to open training camp Wednesday morning, all eyes again will be trained on Marchand, one of the leading candidates to succeed Patrice Bergeron as the franchise’s captain.

Coach Jim Montgomery, general manager Don Sweeney, and president Cam Neely have been discussing a succession plan, and Neely said he hopes to have an announcement soon.

“First and foremost, you want someone that comes to play hard and work hard every day,” said Neely. “I think we’ve seen that through captains from Ray to [Zdeno] Chara, to Bergy, where they’re the hardest working guys on the ice, and there’s no better way to lead than by showing. So, that’s probably the priority.”

Montgomery said the perfect candidate needs to have a strong voice and a sympathetic ear. Part principal and part guidance counselor. A good cop and a bad cop all rolled into one.

“Someone that is confident in who they are. Someone that isn’t afraid to put his arm around a teammate and also hold a teammate accountable,” said the coach. “And also, not afraid to come into my office and hold me accountable to what he believes if I’m doing the right things towards the team.

“I think he’s the go-between the players and the coaches,” Montgomery continues, “and he’s got to be comfortable communicating with everybody and [the media], being able to be there every day too, for you guys to have a source that has the pulse of the team and who’s the leader of our team.”

Montgomery is confident there is a strong pool of candidates in the room. Guys that have watched and learned from not only Chara and Bergeron, but other stout leaders, including David Krejci and Nick Foligno. In addition to Marchand, David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Brandon Carlo, all of whom served as alternate captains last season, fall into that category.

“Everyone’s watched those players, especially Bergy, for years, and there’s a lot of players that have worn a spoked B for a long time and care about culture and how we compete and how we carry ourselves,” said Montgomery.

The ability to meld the qualities of leaders past and present while also putting your own stamp on the job will be critical to the next captain’s success.

That is highly unlikely the final roster.

Those players may all be there but that's only 20 players . they have room for a least 2 more.

Make way for Hienen and Chaisson
