Excited it’s finally here. Annoyed they’re just getting around to publishing the schedule. I’ve been looking for this for 2 weeks so I could plan some visits.

They’re either overthinking this captaincy thing, or spreading out the announcements in order to stay in the headlines.

My sense is it’s the latter.

IDK if they're overthinking it. I think you could make a case for Marchand, Pastrnak or McAvoy as the next captain. Marchand seems like the easy choice but maybe he doesn't want to be captain. Could be to that they want to wait till all the guys return for camp to announce it in front of the team.

The plan is to make the spots available to be won. They won't get it without being the best player, but I think the best plan is one or two guys forcing there way in from somewhere. May as well be the kids if they are ready and they aren't put in a position to stunt there growth.
Poitras is a guy they need to be careful with. Maybe he is ready, maybe he isn't; for me the number one thing is how he protects himself on the ice.
Merkulov, should be able to win a spot if he is playing his best two way game.
Beecher and Brown appear to be the primary candidates for 4C. I see Frederic there in some lineups, but I certainly hope Frederic is in the top 9. I see Freddy staying on the wing and again I give Brown a decided edge on this position as he was signed the first day and waivers and all of that. But if Beecher is hitting like a truck, winning faceoffs and impacting the advanced stats, I am pretty sure the Bruins would be ecstatic to put him on the roster.

No one should get there without earning it.

If the 4th line center spot is between Brown and Beecher, can't see a coach wanting the guy with one year of AHL experience over a veteran with 138 NHL games under his belt.

If you use stats like this, sure. But how about 138 NHL games at age 31? Paints the picture a little differently. Maybe Beecher falls flat and doesn’t beat him out. But this isn’t Tomas Nosek we’re talking about.

And we are not talking about a guy that looks ready to play in the NHL either.

Beecher putting up 23 points in 61 games last season looks like the numbers of a player that needs more time in the minors.

If the Bruins were in a rebuild, sure, play the kid. But they are still looking to win and NHL coaches would prefer a veteran to a not yet ready rookie.

I think the bruins have shown time and time again that spots are already almost 100% locked in regardless of how you perform at camp.

There have been players that have "earned it" in the past but still got sent back down.

Waiver eligibility seems to play a bigger role than what you show in camp.

Woodstock reminds me of PJ Axelsson- not the biggest/strongest guy but smart & can play up and down the lineup as needed. Teams need guys like that.
Not this one and not him

I wouldn’t rule out McLaughlin for that spot. 30pts in 66 games in the AHL last year. I was watching an interview with Mark Divver this summer and he made it sound like he could be a good fit for that spot.

Lucic-McLaughlin-Lauko could be a good mix it up energy line that can put up 20-30pts each.

Happy Training Camp!

Looking forward to seeing Shattenkirk and JVR and how they fit into Monty's system.

His Morning Bru interview is great as is JVR's.

Don’t know why hockey fans get hooked on who captains are but I’ll say McAvoy.

Might be a tough transition year.

I think every year lately, and for good reason, we doubt that any of the kids will be on the team opening night.

Personally, Harrison, Poitras, Beecher, Lysell, Merkulov, and Lohrei have chances I believe to crack this squad.

1. First line LW I believe is up for grabs. People mention JVR, Heinen but if a rookie comes out and outperforms them and makes them impossible to cut, I think its open season.
2. 2C is most likely Coyle, but if Poitras or Merkulov gel nicely with Debrusk and Marchy, you never know. Good problem to have.
3. The 3rd line as constructed would be quite good, but 95% chance you see Coyle up a line and Geekie as the 3C. If JVR doesn't make the 1st line, most likely slides to 3rd.
4. 4th line, outside of Lucic, is anyone's guess. There's no guaranteed spots on that one.
5. 3rd pair will be a fight between Shattenkirk, Zboril, Forbort, Lohrei, Mitchell,
