Meier isn't an UFA in 2023, he's a RFA with 10M QO. This is a minimal team control but still Meier doesn't entirely control his destiny. Agree that his value would be much lower at that point.

I think they try very hard to dump Ekholm at 6.25m x 3.5 years. Crazy how quickly he went from a coveted deadline piece to deadweight salary, and his extension didn't even seem unreasonable at the time.

I mean he's still a good player but for a team on the outside it's a hard one to stomach. He's better than McDonagh who is making half a mil more.

Yep. Such is risk with longer term deals into 30s. It’s why watching Hamilton next few years will be key. He’s been sensational this year after rough up and down year last year but he’s a guy who at some point will fade and need to be protected but reason to be positive with Hughes and Nemec coming up soon to develop in transition.

Blues are also supposedly trying to get out of Krug and Parayko deals to little success.

It’s also why I feel Seversons market may not be as hot as people think. It only takes one team but there’s a lot of fat on some teams cap wise defensively.
