Yeah he's probably better than Smith overall, but he likely won't get PP time and I don't know what type of linemates he'll have...does he have to be protected? Does it make sense to put him up in the lineup and play with Hamilton and bring down Sieganthaler, or have him play on his off side with Sieganthaler?
on what planet would Luke Hughes not see any powerplay time?

Are going to see the Devils add a goalie today or is Blackwood coming off IR? Schmid has to be sent to the AHL by 3 today to be eligible for the playoffs there. I imagine that is something they would like to do (same with Clarke), but isn't there a rule that teams have to have 2 goalies on their roster at all times and with Blackwood on IR then that's not the case. Maybe they are comfortable with Schmid up for the NHL playoffs so the AHL doesn't matter though. I suppose they could just call up the random SJ guy they got in the Meier trade, but I thought he was injured too.
I was thinking about Fitzy's goalie comments and it could be a creative way for NJ to create cap space for another depth move.

Blackwood to Chicago for Stalock (who has been pretty good this year). Gives Devils another $2.05m cap space, which means they could get Henrique at 50% retained without giving up a player. So they can let him be on IR until he is ready.
Chicago can also do the same with Blackwood and just call up Khodobin for backup role. Also if Clarke is sent down then JVR at 50% retained is possible.

We could also give another team a 4th round pick to broker a deal to reduce cap further. Henrique next season at 25%, $1.456m would be pretty great.

Blackwood for Talbot at 50% retained, gives NJ an additional $1m in cap (just under). Also enough for a Henrique move at 50% retained if Clarke is sent back down to AHL.

This seems to be the weird hill you’ve elected to die on, but every single coach, player, and analyst that’s ever lived have agreed that there is a notable difference between regular season hockey and playoff hockey.

The refs call the games differently. That’s just the truth, a truth made self-evident to anyone who’s watched even a shrivel of playoff hockey post-06 lockout.

No, it’s not a totally different sport. But regardless of how many times you say “no it isn’t!!!!!” (since I’ve lost count and I’m certain you have too): playoff hockey is not officiated the same and thus not played the same as regular season hockey.

The difference is because you are playing better teams consistently, and the stakes are higher. Thats why it FEELS different. They game may be officiated differently, but that doesn't change the play on the ice.

People act like its a TOTALLY different sport in the playoffs, and it most certainly is not.

You can play the "what if player X gets hurt" game for any player - not sure why you would randomly pick Luke.
Well in this case it would be any of the LD cause people seem to slot Luke to play regular minutes right away. Cause people seem to act like Luke is gonna be the "trade deadline pick up" you know.

I think adding LD insurance would be nice no matter what Luke is or isnt.

I’d do the pairings like @AfroThunder396 did.

Siegs - Dougie
Luke - Marino
Graves - Seves

"The dog might be brown, but that doesn't mean it can't be purple."

If officials allow clutching and grabbing in the playoffs -- which they do -- the game is inherently played differently.

No, it is not a totally different sport. But there is a marked difference between how you're allowed to defend in the regular season and how you're allowed to defend in the playoffs.

I think if we do add D insurance, it makes sense for it to be a LD just because that's the weaker side for us and the cost is usually cheaper. Plus, Luke can play RD along with Nemec if injuries strike.

I still think forward depth is probably more important.

The games are a bit different, obviously there’s more intensity...but there is a bit of a BS narrative that they “let them play” more in the playoffs. There are more penalties in the playoffs.

Anyway, the big problem is the way people just automatically assume “small guy bad in playoffs” and “big guy good in playoffs”. It’s just not true, there are too many exceptions to list.

Ray Ferraro saying Fitz made the most impact at the deadline acquiring Timo.

That's right, put some f***ing respect on his name!

Definitely did a great job from a long term perspective, assuming he resigns Meier.

A lot of other deals for rentals or guys with 1 or 2 years left. But Meier should be in this for the long haul. Very exciting times indeed!

Of course that’s not true, and anyone who says that must’ve been asleep when the Penguins won their Cups simply by being faster and more skilled than every team they faced.

I will never argue that a team is going to lose because they’re small. I’m just taking offense to the “there is NO difference” claim that has been repeated a few times too many. There is a difference.

Tossing Nemec in who hasn't even been great in the AHL in would be a choice alright.

I don't think a Dman is my target for today though, someone that can credibly knock Wood out of the lineup if he looks like garbage would be my target. A psuedo-Zetterlund.

Igor sure. Experience is so largely overrated
Whole team, I agree. But when it comes to cores, I think it matters. Our core is very inexperienced and we'll see how they handle playoff hockey and close games, big losses/wins, big spotlight, 7 game series with adjustments etc. I think experience is much more mental than anything. Palat and co help, but it still comes down to your core players.
