The games are a bit different, obviously there’s more intensity...but there is a bit of a BS narrative that they “let them play” more in the playoffs. There are more penalties in the playoffs.

Anyway, the big problem is the way people just automatically assume “small guy bad in playoffs” and “big guy good in playoffs”. It’s just not true, there are too many exceptions to list.

I'm not able to 'like' a post at the moment, but thank you this is what I am referring to.

Tossing Nemec in who hasn't even been great in the AHL in would be a choice alright.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I have Nemec as #9 on the depth chart. I'm not suggesting we throw him in the opening night playoff lineup, but if we lose a few defensemen to injuries then he may be the next man up.

I also suggested that maybe Fitz get an AHL defenseman with more experience today. But if given the choice between a depth defenseman to be added today or a depth forward, I think forward may be the better option. Also comes down to the better deals available out there.

If Luke doesn’t play a single playoff game for us I’ll be ok with it. Just practicing with the team will help him tremendously. It’s a tough way to start your career unless your name is Cale Makar.

Whole team, I agree. But when it comes to cores, I think it matters. Our core is very inexperienced and we'll see how they handle playoff hockey and close games, big losses/wins, big spotlight, 7 game series with adjustments etc. I think experience is much more mental than anything. Palat and co help, but it still comes down to your core players.

Canes made the ECF in 2019 with the core guys having minimal if no playoff experience. Same for the Hawks in 2009.

I don't think a Dman is my target for today though, someone that can credibly knock Wood out of the lineup if he looks like garbage would be my target. A psuedo-Zetterlund.

Agreed. If we do anything some bottom 6 depth would be great. Defense should be fine especially with Luke coming in down the stretch

Honestly wonder what Avs fans were thinking about bringing Makar on for the playoffs. Genuinely curious as to what they thought about it.

Teams get away with more in the playoffs, that is definitely true. I've seen some people refer to the data that more penalties are actually called per game in the playoffs, but that's because the clutching and grabbing out of desperation goes up a ton. They have to call some of it, but there are just as many more that go uncalled.

Would that hurt a silky transition D getting their first taste of the NHL, or would it actually help? Maybe he can perform a little better than he would otherwise if he can do some casual hooking to make up for mistakes.

I have no issue giving Hughes some run in the playoffs, I do question who a good fit for his pairing is. I don't want him to get Marino's matchups (plus that puts Graves with Severson which has been Severson's worst partner this year by far), his skillset is pretty redundant with either of Severson and Hamilton, and he's not playing on the right over any of those guys either. I could honestly see us going with 7 D if we want to get him in with everyone healthy, then if guys are injured that kind of makes your decisions for you. Otherwise, it's probably Severson which could be an incredible even strength pairing but it might depend on which forwards they end up out with.

Oh yeah, of course it happens. I'm just saying that gives Rangers core an edge for sure cause they've been there. I think our rosters are very close on paper. We've been the better team on the ice. It comes down to small things. I dont see how that series doesnt go to 6-7 games. Everything matters.

Luke doesn't even need to be Makar. It being the playoffs is overstated anyway. Hockey is hockey. I have a hard time believing Luke isn't already much better than Smith. Bahl's been pretty good recently so mayyyyybe he's better if Luke is just extraordinarily bad defense and can't even get his offense going.

Vancouver and Chicago apparently checked in on Turcotte. If he falls out of favor in LA could be an interesting offseason reclamation project to try and develop into a cheap, cost controlled 3C. Not to mention the Jack Hughes USNTDP connection.

I think we're pretty significantly better both on paper and on the ice. Rangers roster is overrated due to names. Without a big bounceback from Kane he's not all that impactful. Tarasenko's not as good as his name. Panarin's still really good but he's not what he was a few years ago. Trouba's not his name. Fox is incredible but I much much prefer our D core. Igor going full Igor would be huge. Outside of that we're a lot better.

I can't see us wanting to give a guy who isn't even all that special in the AHL a good run for the 3C. Teams like Vancouver and Chicago where there's no stakes makes a lot more

They just haven't shown that they are willing to sit him at all, so I don't have any reason to believe it's going to happen after one game in the playoffs.

Wood would play like crap and they'd probably sit boqvist instead

Nate as well would be gone even though he's the best guy on the line.

I know the draft day is boring, but wish I could at least watch one of the shows. Sucks NHL Network is not on YouTubeTV
