This would be the only time I'm cheering for Vegas cause otherwise I hate them but I definitely want them to knock out Kings round 1. In LA too. And Quick wave to Blake.

I'm never going to root for a team to move for obvious reasons, but God I feel for Zona fans, that franchise is an absolute joke. They're spending like 30 million dollars below the cap floor right now. They traded their best asset for a sub-par return to save a few million. This is embarrassing.
everyone can laugh at the coyotes but they are f***ing loaded with draft picks, as many as 21 1-3 round picks over the next few years. unless they hire conte, they should be pretty well positioned in the next 3-5 years. then again it’s arizona so who the hell knows.
An optimist would say they're trying hard to set up for when Matthews is a UFA, but would they even pay him? Can anyone see this team paying a competitive salary to a superstar or would they nickel and dime him over a few million.

Nope, no cap circumvention here, no way now how.

I get needing to make the cap floor with some bogus contracts, but this is taking it to an embarrassing extreme.
This is why trying to write down every scenario of what is ok or isn’t ok doesn’t work well.

In this case, it is very clear that what Arizona is doing is well within the bounds of accepted action. There is no way the league could prevent this that wouldn’t be undone by arbitration.

I don’t think there is anything that could be done here though, LTIR and salary floors needed pretty stringent rules to be understood but it also leads to teams playing within those rules as hard as possible.

He might be the worst goalie in the league. I'd be happy personally. Probably a stretch but it would be nice if he started tomorrow against us.
Oh I agree. Its just something you dont do if youre the GM. Kings are not winning the Cup this year. Let him ride out his contract like he deserves and dont piss off your core players in the process. How about dont sign Cal Petersen to that abysmal contract.

I get that perspective but personally I think it is what it is. The West is weak, I'd probably try to go for it, but they should have gotten Chychrun.

Cap circumvention is generally used to try to gain a competitive advantage. This is the opposite of that.

We've taken advantage of this before when acquiring Devils legend Marc Savard. It was also something Shero should've done more often when we sucked.

Sure. Just the idea of Marty playing for NYI/PHI/NYR instead of STL which was bad enough already. Ugh.

Oh yes

Please play Quick against us tomorrow night. He was the first star of the game for Devils back in January when we played in LA.

I’d have to think Columbus would get Brossoit back or Vegas is just gonna keep three goalies or send Brossoit back to the minors? And Columbus rolls with Gillies lol.

I agree with the latter but there’s an ethical difference between using unused cap space when you’re still spending at or above the floor in real dollars, and spending way below the floor in real dollars then using these ‘contracts’ as a get out of spending free card to get up to the floor in cap dollars. The latter violates the spirit of a cap floor.

Don't mean this negatively, you were literally one of the first people online (online, period) who I thought of when I saw this trade.

Elvis/Gillies/Brossoit is quite the three headed monster

This is other teams using Arizona to dump contracts, which gains the dumping teams a competitive advantage by being able to get out of shitty moves they shouldn't have made, nearly consequence free. Yes Arizona gets a pick for their services, but it's of minimal value to them.

It's cap laundering, and it skews the competitive balance that should be imposed by the cap.
