Where is my Komorov boy? Bring me Martin for my three 2nd round picks!
It was kinda hilarious. Lou lost Tavares to TOR and during the same free agency acquired Martin from the Leafs and signed former Leaf Komarov. It obviously had nothing to do with the Tavares signing, but in hindsight it felt like the teams swapped those players.

Oh well Martin and Komarov sure have gotten much closer to Cup than Tavares since.

ARI fans are so convinced crouse wants to stay

Thought I saw a quote recently from Crouse saying he wanted to play his entire career there.

I'm not going to trash what they're doing in Arizona just yet.

They have a shit ton of draft picks coming up and could build a solid team for around the time they get a new arena. Now, if they refuse to pay money to spend up to the cap at that point and keep their players, then I'll have an issue.

As it is, none of those LTIR contracts should theoretically impact their ability to field a competitive team in the future aside from Weber's which has 3 more years after this...and even then, considering the state of the team it's tough to see them being very competitive by the end of that contract anyway.

A lot of fans want to see their team go full scorched earth on a rebuild and we've never seen anything like this before:

The GM clearly botched the Chychrun trade though, which makes it tough to have much confidence in having a solid plan and/or resources there to make this work. Fitz talks about the team he works with for the TDL - I can't see Arizona having anywhere near the same executive/analytics/scouting departments.

Out of curiosity, where’s that draft pick visualization from?

So much for that memo.

Bettman's pet team in the desert is no better than a money laundering taco shop and probably has the same odds to win on any given night.

CIRCUMVENTION at every turn. Oh but let's look the other way to offset their low revenue situation playing in a college barn.
The memo was about moves like Toronto's acquisition of Riley Nash, which let them go over the cap cause they didn't activate him until the postseason. I think the equivalent player this deadline was Gustav Nyqvist who moved for nothing so I guess some GMs did get scared.

because if he is injured, I think insurance covers the contract and they don't have to pay it

I think.

They only have to pay a portion of it, I think it's something between 20 and 40%.

The sheer number of picks the Coyotes have is also partly why they would prefer a 1st round return that is likely higher than anything else they were being offered.
