I'm pretty sure McDavid was the centre and Lazar was on the wing. I think..... Petan was the other winger on that line.

Ahhhh touche, good reach for that one back in 1989. Ricci's hype was through the roof.

McDavid centered Lazar in 2015, but I remember Point, Fabbri and Petan all spending time on his left wing. In 2014, I'm pretty sure Reinhart played center and McDavid left wing (can't remember who the right wing on that line was...probably Lazar or Petan.

Yeah, Ricci was really hyped in Peterborough and was really a classic case of being over-exposed while in junior and scouts picking apart/over-thinking his game. He also didn't take the expected strides in his game in his draft year. He probably would have gone #1 in 1989 over Sundin if he was eligible.

I attended the tournament in 2015. Each of them took turns playing center. See faceoff stats here: https://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/417/IHM417000_85F_10_0.pdf

I would be surprised if Schaefer doesn't make the team, simply for his size, and his touch around the net. There will definitely be some 17/18 y/os that will be cut for bigger 19 y/o players, Canada does this every year.

Not really sure about Dennis Williams. Everett does well in the regular season but usually chokes in the playoffs.

Okay here is my prediction for the team - this is without any of Sillinger, Johnston, Guenther, McTavish or Clarke who could all still find themselves on this team. I’m using the assumption that they won’t be loaned out - although I feel that Wyatt Johnston and Dylan Guenther each have a pretty good chance at being loaned out come mid December.

FORWARDS:

B.Othmann - C.Bedard - L.Stankoven

A.Fantilli - S.Wright - M.Savoie

Z.Bolduc - O.Beck - J.Roy

Z.Ostapchuk - N.Gaucher - T.Robertson

Z.Dean, Z.L’Heureux

DEFENDERS:

E.Del Mastro - O.Zellweger

K.Korchinski - C.Kyrou

D.Mateychuk - C.Ceulemans

N.Warren

GOALIES:

B.Gaudreau

C.Whitehead

T.Brennen
Hasn’t played a game this season, and recently had hip surgery. Are you not worried about that?

Interesting that there was a general manager named.

yeah, that's a first time ever for the junior program. usually it is done with the coaching staff and a committee of internal Hockey Canada people. Adopting a senior men's world championship approach to the U20 team. No real major objection to it. Curious to see how it works out.

Yeah - that’s why I have him as an extra as of now.

He would be a huge addition to the team In my opinion and would play a role Similar to Ridly Greig in the summer.

I agree, there is probably no harm in it provided the GM isn't a total fool. I assume this came about because of the turmoil at Hockey Canada and lack of prep for the tournament compared to most other years.

Here is my November 11th version of the team Hockey Canada will ice on Boxing Day.

Othmann - Bedard - Roy
Fantilli - Wright (A) - Stankoven (A)
L'Heureux - Beck - Gaucher
Bolduc - Ostapchuk - Greene

Yager & Kidney - last forwards cut

Zellweger (C) - Korchinski
Del Mastro - Ceulemans
Lambos - Pickering
Mateychuk

Luneau - last D cut

Gaudreau
Brennan
Milic

EDIT*** - I immediately regret not finding a spot on the roster for Savoie, Geekie and Schaefer. oops!

Boyd is certainly no fool and has done an A+ job with the Ottawa 67s (but seriously, we might have been *this* close to having the pleasure of Dave Cameron returning as head coach), but I agree that the structure in place is likely a stop-gap measure this year until Hockey Canada gets their house in order.

As a fan of both the 67s AND Team Canada, I'm rather happy that Cameron is staying in Ottawa for the holiday season.

I'd be ok with something like this. Not sure on goaltenders yet, but I would like to make sure that there is some good defensive cover on the ice most of the time. Wright is the only NHLer I think gets released.

Othmann Stankoven Bedard

Kidney Wright Roy

Bolduc Fantilli Dean

Ostapchuk Beck Gaucher

Greene, Savoie

Del Mastro Zellweger

Korchinski Matier

Allan Ceulemans

Lambos, Kyrou

Goaltenders

Sillinger could really use a break from the NHL over the holidays to be with his peers for a fun kitchen party tournament down east. but that's just my take.

Getting one more centre would be really big for this team. Sillinger, McTavish, Johnston, any one of them would be fine. Not expecting it but you never know. Would be quite happy if Sillinger was taken into the warm embrace of Maritimers for two weeks around Christmas.

Only 300 seats remaining for the World Juniors in Halifax, she’s going to be a packed one. Hoping for a very successful tourny! Go Canada!

In August I said Matier was my long shot to make the team on defense. His numbers are amazing right now (20 pts in 16 games for a 6'5" defenseman that can play with grit is pretty solid).

It's team canada so we cant guarantee spots but he's for sure in my top 6 right now.

Agreed, I got to catch his 4 point game the other night and I was impressed with how much his offensive instincts have improved over last year. I didn't expect a season like this out of him.

I posted my team a week ago and I didn't include Matier - without a doubt that has changed.
