Having 9 points in 12 OHL games as a 19 year old forward is apparently enough to be put on Button's WJC team...

Beck is not a lock but I think he makes it as a depth player. Can never have enough solid centres who are beasts in faceoffs.

That faceoff ability may be what gets him on the team.

Stillman has a history with Hockey Canada, is an older player, and can play in the bottom-6 in a non-scoring role. They make decisions like this every year.

Don't like his team. Where the players line up in a projection isn't a big deal, but I'd rather Bedard on the wing and Stankoven, the returnee who was best in August, at centre. I'd also like more offensive talent at forward as I'm not sold on Wright and Fantilli carrying big offensive loads. One the other hand on defence I'd like a bit more defensive fortitude to cover for the offensive defencemen. Also another right handed defenceman as the 2022 experiment was more than enough for me when it comes to failure clearing the zone.

Johnston and Guenther seem unlikely enough to not even mention.

Okay here is my prediction for the team - this is without any of Sillinger, Johnston, Guenther, McTavish or Clarke who could all still find themselves on this team. I’m using the assumption that they won’t be loaned out - although I feel that Wyatt Johnston and Dylan Guenther each have a pretty good chance at being loaned out come mid December.

FORWARDS:

B.Othmann - C.Bedard - L.Stankoven

A.Fantilli - S.Wright - M.Savoie

Z.Bolduc - O.Beck - J.Roy

Z.Ostapchuk - N.Gaucher - T.Robertson

Z.Dean, Z.L’Heureux

DEFENDERS:

E.Del Mastro - O.Zellweger

K.Korchinski - C.Kyrou

D.Mateychuk - C.Ceulemans

N.Warren

GOALIES:

B.Gaudreau

C.Whitehead

T.Brennen

Since when does Hockey Canada peeps put 17 year old undrafted players in the number 1 center spot? Has it ever happened? maybe Lindros?

Of course, it doesn't just depend on the 17 yo, but who else is available to take that spot. Who would you put above Bedard for this team?

Yeah Lindros would be the only one. Crosby was LW, McDavid was second line centre, Stamkos was top line winger. Can't think of many others who played a prominent role, and none top line centre but Lindros.

I thought McDavid played wing in 2015. and they made a big deal of putting him on a line with Curtis Giggles Lazar to take the pressure off young Connor.

It's not who I would put ahead of Bedard... generally that doesn't matter to conservative Hockey Canada people. Their approach was/is and always has been Age over Talent.

I mean it's not a big deal if you swap Bedard and Stankoven between the C and RW on the top line. There's a very likely scenario where over 3/4 of the forward group are natural C on their junior teams so they can be shuffled around.

I'm pretty sure McDavid was the centre and Lazar was on the wing. I think..... Petan was the other winger on that line.

Mike Ricci

Ahhhh touche, good reach for that one back in 1989. Ricci's hype was through the roof.
