Yeah first week of December generally.

Are there any NCAA or USHL players other than Fantilli and Ceulemans who deserve a look?
Hard to say.

I don’t know if someone like Nick Moldenhauer deserves a look, or if he’s just doing well because of playing with Mack Celebrini. Matthew Wood maybe just because of draft projection, but he really needs to work on his skating so I think he’s a long shot too.

Cameron Whitehead, Ryan Greene are the only two other options I could see HC having any interest in.

Yeah I think the staff is already working on this, just not announced. It's generally more of a late November thing.
No it’s not generally end of November was always early November even before if I’m not mistaken

We always knew BEFORE the subway series which was always around the second week of November. So I’m not sure why the delay in announcing the coaching

I see, perhaps invite Moldenhauer and Celebrini. Might be more feasible if they went back to the older style camps that featured way more players.

Forward group I could see:

Roy - Wright - Bedard
Othmann - Stankoven - Fantili
Bolduc - Kidney - Savoie
Ostapchuk - Beck - Gaucher
Dean, Robertson

There are obvious delays because of you know what.

I think something like that is likely, especially the fourth line. I'd consider the forward group very strong if it had one more centre to play behind Stankoven and push either Wright or Fantilli, neither of whom I am convinced of as a star for this tournament at the moment, down a spot. Forward and defence should both be reasonable deep.

I just can't see Kidney making it if Wright/Stankoven are center 1 and 2. I'd much rather use Gaucher as a 3rd center.

Kidney can play on the wing. I could see him working as a playmaker on a line with Wright as a centre looking to shoot, or as a spare again. I agree that he probably won't be a centre on the team.

I think he'll get squeezed out totally or be the 13th forward again (if that).

There is Yager to consider as an extra winger with a lot more talent/tools/physicality than Kidney.

Kraken likely to keep Wright, may loan F to AHL, WJC - TSN.ca

TSN, via Dreger, saying that Wright is likely staying in Seattle, as mystifying as that may be. Also says that they may take advantage of the AHL conditioning stint gimmick and are "looking at" loaning him for the WJC. In an ideal situation Wright would already be back in junior playing well and gearing up for the camp. I'm not all that enthused if he gets sent down without a whole lot of playing time this year and shoehorned into a top role on the team. The guy has yet to dominate at the junior level and has barely played this season.

Whitehead could get a look in a weaker goalie year like this one. I'm curious, has a USHL player ever made this team (actively playing in the USHL while on the team)? I'm drawing a blank.

In general, having players on the team that aren’t playing in the CHL is quite rare.

I went back to 2010 and no active USHL player had played for Canada.

I think you're right. Typically anyone who is 18 or 19 would be in the NCAA already, and I don't think that any Canadian who went the NCAA route was ever really in contention as a 17 or 16 year old. It will happen at some point though.

It’ll defenitly happen at some point - we’re only starting to see more and more high end Canadiens play USHL, then college in recent years.

I know I may be counting my chickens before they hatch - but I think you could see it happen as soon as next year with Macklin Celebrini who is a very talent forward, who is probaly the best Canadian talent in the 2024 Draft.

He is playing for the Chicago Steel as a 16 year old and producing insane totals already; he will be playing there next season as well as a 17 year old.

Canada likes to give their potential top-5 picks in the upcoming draft, at the very least a chance at making the U-20 team. Celebrini should be in contention for next years team.

That is of course if Cameron Whitehead doesn’t take the crown this year.

I could be wrong - purely just speculation.

But I don’t think that the odds of Cole Sillinger being on this team are 0 - something to watch in my opinion.

With Bemstrom getting recalled from the AHL, I would not be surprised to see him get sent down (especially if they give Johnson a chance at C in Columbus)

Selfishly, I hope Cole does play in the WJC. He needs to get his confidence back.
