Since it seems the Ducks will likely finish bottom 5 this year, I figured we should have a thread for discussing the implications of where the f***s will finish in the standings. As well as what factors could affect where they finish.

Tonight was interesting as all bottom 5 teams earned 2 points sans the Ducks and the Hawks.

Hey Folks,

Want to clear some of the air here, Tank talk is not an issue, please talk tank to your heart’s content here, totally understand how critical it is for that Future Potential Top pick. The issue is posting in the GDT, like you want the team to lose or make posts that you are angry they are winning or won the game, or bashing the team for not tanking.

The main reason is, to respect your fellow members. The GDT is about discussion of the game on a live basis and then post game discussion and opinions. A lot of fans are not rooting for the team to lose, and everyone has their views and opinions towards tanking, and may not want to discuss tanking in the GDT

If you guys have any concerns, feel free to PM me or another mod, and would be happy to explain more in detail.

Thanks!

Leo

Potential backbreaker allowed by Chicago, who now trail 3-2 with less than 3 to go.

EDIT: Arizona hits the empty net, Hawks headed for a regulation loss. The positive is that the Coyotes are now 9 clear and are trending towards uncatchable territory themselves.

At this point it's Columbus v. San Jose for the crown, and I'm putting my money on Columbus. As for us we are in a four way race with the Hawks, the Canadiens, and the Flyers for "third". Arizona and Vancouver are 9 points ahead of us and winning enough games to stay in front.

The Hawks are bad, and while they are winning a few games now I just don't see them passing us. The Flyers are six points ahead and I feel that we will have trouble catching them. They are going to stumble into some points. That leaves Montreal, four points ahead of us, which has a 1-7-2 record for the last ten games which causes me the most worry.

Man. I'm at T-mobile arena for the CBJ-VGK game. Vegas is objectively playing like shit. Godawful passing, no synergy, lazy forecheck. Lazy everything really. Still up 5-1. CBJ def committed to the tank.

Ducks scored 7 goals on them, so yeah. Anyway, hope you are having fun at least. Lol.

I was watching the game as well and it was indeed so lopsided, might have just end the game early to prevent injuries ha.

But CBJ we absolutely horrible even when the season started. No idea whats the problem there but it wasn't only goalies - they could had been better as well but it would add only a few wins lol. Their defense has been with an open door policy towards the opposition all year long. But they shouldnt be that bad and they have a lot of young pieces coming up soon

canucks, blues, and probably the coyotes (9 pts ahead of the ducks) can be written off the tank race.

montreal is the team we really need to keep an eye on. they are just 4 pts ahead of the ducks and play TB and boston in their next two games. should keep an eye on the flyers too (6 pts ahead) but i have a lot more faith in them winning games and they have some winnable ones coming up

I decided to leave after Eichel's hatty. This might as well be a scrimmage.

You probably have the same feeling I have tonight, seeing one of your teams dominate, and the other being eliminated from the playoff contention, after a very poor showing. Really ruined my night.

Vancouver wins again, they’re 10 clear and basically uncatchable. If they beat us tomorrow night in any fashion or get a point with an OT loss, you can all but write them off

I‘d say you can drop the curtain. For the most part, I agree with @Terry Yake and his assessment of things: Montreal is the only team that worries me and I don’t think the Hawks will pass us. Probably looking at 4 or 5 in the lottery when all is said and done unless this team goes on an absolute heater

Well, we’re hanging in there. Need one (preferably both)of SJ/CHI to go on a bit of a run
won't be SJ. i would be shocked if they win more than a couple games the rest of the season. they have completely checked out and will probably challenge columbus for the bottom spot

I think Columbus and San Jose are a safe bet to end with the 1st and 2nd pick. St. Louis, Arizona, and Vancouver will probably have too many points to finish lower than the Ducks. Philly, Montreal, and Chicago are the teams to watch.

If I had to guess, Philly and Montreal stay at the 5th and 6th picks. The Ducks will either finish 3rd or 4th swapping with Chicago the rest of the season. A top 4 pick would be huge.

That's kinda how I see it as well. But you never can be sure. We only hold the tiebreaker by one over the Sharks and three over the Hawks. I'd hate to lose a spot on the tiebreaker after we had such a commanding lead all year. At least we are 5 up on the Habs and 10 on the Flyers.

The thing is even if we hold position at 4, there's a significantly solid chance of us dropping one or two spots.

Thankfully most of our remaining games are against teams either fighting to keep a playoff spot, teams trying to earn one, or teams fighting for home ice. Arizona and St. Louis are our biggest threat as tank busters besides Gibson and Dostal playing for personal pride.

the ducks dropping in the lottery is an annual tradition and you 100% know it'll happen again this season
