Since it seems the Ducks will likely finish bottom 5 this year, I figured we should have a thread for discussing the implications of where the f***s will finish in the standings. As well as what factors could affect where they finish.

Tonight was interesting as all bottom 5 teams earned 2 points sans the Ducks and the Hawks.

Hey Folks,

Want to clear some of the air here, Tank talk is not an issue, please talk tank to your heart’s content here, totally understand how critical it is for that Future Potential Top pick. The issue is posting in the GDT, like you want the team to lose or make posts that you are angry they are winning or won the game, or bashing the team for not tanking.

The main reason is, to respect your fellow members. The GDT is about discussion of the game on a live basis and then post game discussion and opinions. A lot of fans are not rooting for the team to lose, and everyone has their views and opinions towards tanking, and may not want to discuss tanking in the GDT

If you guys have any concerns, feel free to PM me or another mod, and would be happy to explain more in detail.

Thanks!

Leo

I put these in the likely order to where it all makes sense.

Also, a Lego? Serious evil in your heart.

That's my big concern with guys like Zell and Minty. They seem solid in their own end in juniors but the NHL is a different animal. Lacombe looked decently capable with good emphasis on cutting off passing and skating lanes with his positioning and stick. But a trio of Drysdale, Zellweger and Mintyukov needs to be offset with some defensively responsible guys. We'll see how the other two look when they actually make it but my money would be on them being a little closer to average defensively

You're gonna like Hinds! 6'3 defensive specialist with offense! Plays like Lindholm defensively such as winning puck battles along the boards and efficiently getting the puck out quick via passing. Hinds has to best +/- rating in the QMJHL for defenseman with +61 and 2nd overall in the Q, behind teammate F Roy.

He's one of my dark horses to make the team at the start of the season or halfway through the season. And like LaCombe, he's a left shot that has played primarily on the right side.

Minty and Zell can stay in the AHL for a year or so until they grasp on defensive structure, as there's no real need to rush them. LaCombe has had 4 years in the NCAA. Helleson had 3 years in the NCAA and 1 year in the AHL.

I hope we can sign RD Moore either next year (junior year) or the year after (senior year). He's a6'3 shutdown D who is also a fast skater with developing offense. Unfortunately, the hang up is he's a Harvard player.

Admittedly I haven't tracked Hinds much at all so I hope he has a similar track to Manson (without the regression and doesn't necessarily need to be the same physical presence as long as he's reliable in our zone). Thanks for the write up. I'll make it a point to keep better tabs on him.

I'm not ready to make a determination on Helleson but he didn't look out of place either.

maybe the Pens sit their big guys tomorrow with their season being over.
that would be awesome. not sure why they'd even have crosby/malkin suit up anyways unless they have some kind of record on the line or something contract bonus related

I feel evil hoping they're going to be completely demoralized and unmotivated to try to go for the moral victory.
Three championships from their Crosby/Malkin/Letang core. Pens are (were) also on the longest running North American playoff streak in all professional sports, with 16 straight years. Crosby has not missed the playoffs since his rookie year.

lol, don’t feel bad for them if they’re down in the dumps tomorrow.

The Blackhawks might have an extra 5% effort tonight to send off their longtime captain. While their current players don't have all that much of a connection to Toews because it's just basically an AHL squad, the game is in Chicago so the fans might be pushing them. The game is vs Flyers so it might end up a good battle.

Hopefully CHI sends off their longtime captain with a win :)
