A little surprised to see the figure in the 60's. Would have thought Blooms starts the conversation at 70 million. Regardless it's a great move for Liverpool. Mac Allister is a gem in midfield, he makes everyone around him better, and is one of the slipperiest players against the press.

I think he will fit in well if this ends up being the deal.

In Arsenal news, yes please:

Like Liverpool didn't set GK and CB records.
The funny thing about (half of) this is Alisson was the GK record for less than a month and then Chelsea busted that too.

Also LFC we’re buying those guys at the top of the market. What Chelsea have done here is reside the market on players that haven’t come close to justifying that fee. Unless you want to make the argument that Mudryk and friends were at a comparable level to Alisson at Roma when they moved

Mudryk's equivalent is Nunez. Dominant in a smaller league.

Okay but we aren’t talking about Nunez. We are talking about Alisson and Virgil right? Those are the GK and CB records you mentioned. For someone who likes to talk about moving goal posts….

Well yes. But we were also talking about positional records, so your whole Mudryk shout was irrelevant.

I love this. You accuse me of moving the goalposts because we were talking about Alisson and Virgil/GK and CB and I mention Nunez, like you weren't the one who brought up Mudryk, who is neither Alisson, Virgil, a GK, nor a CB.

You moved the goalposts and then got upset that I stayed with you.

Nunez also dominated in the CL and Mudryk didn't. Your point is correct. The GK and CB they paid for were top class. Anyone saying that about Mac Allister, sorry but no. I'll take him on my team but yes the market for really good players has been ruined.

No one is upset.

My point was Chelsea reset the market. Do you feel Chelsea did not reset the market?

You brought positions into it. You are just making lousy points as usual. I’m just pointing out how disingenuous it is. Just like the deflecting that you are rolling with here

Right. LFC is buying Mac Allister to do Gini Wijnaldum stuff; (and this kind of replicates that transfer) but Wijnaldum cost them around 25m. Now, largely because the market was blown up, Brighton can ask for 60-65m. Thats the current market

Comparing Benfica to Shakhtar is also disingenuous. Portugal has a much better league than Ukraine and always has. Ukraine's league has gotten worse since being bombed out of the country. Some of the teams have returned where they belong, but all the foreign talent left. The technical level in Ukraine isn't better than MLS even.

No more than Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Juventus, PSG, United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and I'm sure I'm missing some did.

The bright side is the more you call my points lousy, the better I know my points are. Comparing Wijnaldum (2016) from a relegated team to a transfer in 2023 from a table rival is peak Savant.

Oh good more FUD. Keep it coming. I am talking about the current market. No one effected the current market Ike Chelsea did, which is why I am bringing them up. Those other teams were the ones frivolously spending on targets in January were they?

Oh, in that case, no, I don't think Chelsea "reset the market" unless you think the market is vastly different this summer than last. Which I'm sure you'll now make the argument that Mac Allister wouldn't have cost 70M last summer like we don't have a whole season and WC to look at.

I mean if Mac Allister is going for 60m plus, I think that’s a pretty fair indication we are in a different market. Players like Mac Allister used to be going for 20-30

....in 2016, when they were coming from a relegation side. When was the last time a u-25 midfielder starting at a top 7 EPL side went to another EPL side for 20-30M? Shit, Liverpool paid 60 for Keita five years ago. Nunes was 45 last summer coming from Portugal. Tielemans was 45 four years ago. Xhaka was 45 7 years ago. Ndombele was 62 four years ago. Fred was 59 five years ago.

If you were buying Mac Allister from Southampton in 2016 and they were still charging you 70, that would be a different story.

When LFC bought Keita he was thought of as one of the best players in the Bundesliga. Obviously he hasn’t justified that fee but I would say Keita then was probably higher regarded than Mac Allister now. As a whole there are a lot less PL to PL transfers now because the prices are too high

I remember him being considered one of the top talents but not necessarily one of the top players. Similar to Ndombele, for example. But I will concede that Mac Allister is probably a bit down from that. However, add the PL to PL tax and the progression of 5 years and a WC title and I don't think the price is that outlandish.

And yeah. Prices aren't too high because of Chelsea. It's been that way for a long time due to a lot of teams. Locked in starters for teams in European contention just aren't going for 20-30M and they haven't been for a while, barring unusual circumstances/contract issues.

Mac Allister was one of the best players on a WC winner.
