Why let Gundogan go though? Or did he personally want to move on? It's not like Kovacic is substantially younger.
If you've already blown through tens of millions (let alone hundreds), then there's a lot more wrong in your life than your morals.
I mean the only person that would come to mind for me that is surprising is Valverde. He's had some rumours, but would be surprising if Madrid actually let him go.
