The whole league is like that to an extent. It has to be travel-based, because MLS skews even more toward the home team than international leagues, with none of the usual reasons (harassment, threats, bags of pee, etc.)How can a Jekyll and Hyde team like Caps look like world-beaters at home; and suck so badly on the road?
Probably their best game of the season last night to dump Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders 2-0. But so far 0-3 on the road.
Yes, but both the Canucks and Whitecaps (at least MLS era) have organizational trauma going back a long time, and corrupt/immoral ownership on top of that.Isn't is supposed to be embarrassing when a team that didn't even have any players six months ago, hands you your lunch?
Almost every MLS expansion team in recent years (minus Cincinnati) has been successful off the hop. Remember the league isn't at the top of the world pyramid, so it's always possible to draw in talent from elsewhere -- you are not really starting at a disadvantage. In the late '90s (when MLS was considerably lower level than now) the Chicago Fire won the championship in their first year.I don't how the MLS works with expansion teams, or how first-year teams usually play......but that game last night against the expansion St. Louis was so ugly, it was almost comical. An 'own-goal' and two complete fumbles by the 'Caps keeper.
St. Louis now 8-1-2, while the Whitecaps are 4-5-5. It's almost as odious a comparison as the Seattle Kraken and the Vancouver Canucks.

I used to enjoy watching the Whitecaps so much..Now they are rarely on TV and tonight's performance.. the defending looks like low end men's senior league.. Is anyone watching this?

Yeah - after I wrote it, the Dynamo gave us a hold my beer moment and doubled down on hilarious defending.Who needs defense when you can pop in 6 goals a game?
I was actually at the game tonight and the defense was pretty awful to behold. But the game was pretty damn entertaining, all in all.
The talent level in the league is better than ever before...? It's half the reason teams like the Whitecaps stumbled from competent to barely keeping their head afloat as more and more high-priced talent started flowing in and they were left behind.the league seems to have gotten worse talent wise
no one watches it
attendance is ass
franchise values? somehow insanely high
I recall St. Louis being a very good soccer market way back in the NASL days, but my memory could be playing tricks ...The talent level in the league is better than ever before...? It's half the reason teams like the Whitecaps stumbled from competent to barely keeping their head afloat as more and more high-priced talent started flowing in and they were left behind.
The league is clearly on the rise either way, expanding at a (frustratingly fast) pace and a lot of ownership groups wanting in. It's a far cry from what it was in its origins. Attendance isn't half bad either, especially in the newer markets. Somehow Atlanta -- an oft-criticized sports town -- continues to rake in loads of soccer fans.
It's been sad as a Vancouver fan to see the city fall from one of the more prominent soccer markets in the continent to a total also-ran in one of the least-appealing facilities in the league. Seeing the enthusiasm in non-obvious places like St. Louis and Charlotte has been a real gut punch.

I wake up every weekend to watch the EPL.
I’ve tried to watch the Whitecaps but they’re so terrible I just couldn’t get into it.
When given free tix by the team, my son witnessed them diving and faking injury for 30 minutes in some kind of semi-final which they eventually lost. We decided we didn’t need to see that again.
There are tons of soccer/football fans in Vancouver, if the product was even decent, there would be huge support.
If your standard is the top league in the world, you’re in for a whole lot of disappointment most everywhere.I wake up every weekend to watch the EPL.

So, Cordova is a DP. This is year one of three.
Please someone tell me there are reasons to feel optimistic about this contract.
There's not really much to be optimistic about regarding him. He was a suspect signing from the beginning. Horrible scouting. The money could have been utilised much more wisely. So, Cordova is a DP. This is year one of three.
