What a game! Cheering for Brazil but man Croatia just find a way. And arguably with a much weaker side than 4 years ago. That keeper is the player of the tourney for me already.

A structured and balanced squad beats a squad full of fire power that relies on a forward press. It happens every single time and was how Italy beat England at the Euro's.

Croatia's strength is their midfield and backline and they really gave Brazil few openings and the few times they got caught out, they quickly managed to recover.

Yep. Total team defending always pushes less talented squads further. Greece won it all that way.

Group F was the group of death after all. Canada was still the minnow within it, but the narrative isn’t as straightforward as some may like it to be.
Was completely laughable when after the draw was made, many thought 3pts against Morocco was almost a given.

It was:

"Croatia is too old and Canada's younger guys will take advantage.

Belgium is a top team in the globe but anything can happen.

Just get a result against one of them and we have a chance."

Moroccan fans: "...?"

Croatia and Morocco are perfect examples of slightly less talented teams, but total team organization. Tactically, they've been perfect.

Watching the Canada team is like watching the Canucks, once they don't have the ball the whole defensive structure breaks down.

Canada was totally screwed when Eustaquio went down. Atiba was a direct reason why Canada got caved in at midfield and a reason why CBs would be suckered in the middle. The backline was awful but many counter attacks were due to our weak MF.

Really hope we see 3-4 quality pieces come in at MF and CB during the next cycle. That would really allow Tajon and Davies to focus more on their offensive forays along the wings.

I have more faith in Canada succeeding in this than I have in Vancouver being a playoff team.

While we're here, a new centerback:

And rumors of the team's interest in this guy to replace Cavallini at striker:

Hmmm ... that Israeli striker looks good on paper. But then so did Cavallini once upon a time.

The Whitecaps look astronomically better to start this season than they did in game 1 last season.

Fitting they finally look better now that I'm no longer a STH.
