Boy, do Flames absolutely suck in shootouts. Vancouver wins!

They came very close to losing it in last minute after a really good hit by Huberdeau, yes, you read that right, a hit by Huberdeau created an odd man rush for Flames. Flames players have zero hands. The shootout for them was just ugly.

Flames get a point moving 2 up on Montreal, while Vancouver closes to within one point.

A few more losses and a little luck and we could be 7th/8th.
I personally think this is the highest we can hope for pre-lottery (but still unlikely).

Everyone below that are the trash of the trash which we won't out-tank.

It's starting to happen. Buffalo and Ottawa are finding their games, they should pass us soon. Putting us in the back half of the top 10 which I think we can all live with considering how bad the other teams are.
Agreed.

Arizona
Columbus
Chicago
Anaheim

They'll be tough to catch as they're all next level bad.

Montreal will more than likely be in the next group of teams with Philadelphia, St Louis, Nashville and Vancouver. If Florida can be around that 10-12 spot, it would be amazing.

Anaheim is the rested team and just got spanked by Toronto so they should come out hungry. But remember how bad we were last year? The Ducks are even worse.

There is a thread on the main board anout them having 1 regulation win in their last 30 games.

They are due for #2 ;)

You can add San Jose to the list of teams we won't catch, they have a worse record then Arizona. And frankly Philly is pretty close to that group, they have a P% of 0.417, and are 2-6-2 in their last 10. So unless they go on a big winning streak it will be hard for us to get that low.

Detroit has been steadily dropping down the standing so they are like going to be in that group with us. Still getting inside that bottom-10 is still very much a possibility. But I just can't have faith in Ottawa & Buffalo, they just always seem to find a way to go huge losing streaks and sink so far below where they should end up.

Habs were pretty luck in this quarter of the season.
Alot of teams allowing 3-4 goals to them in 7 shots.
Teams losing leads often to us because they stop playing.

After xmas hockey will be harder , I expect them to finish 4-7th bottom of the league.

They can easily get a 5-7 lose streak if Allen and montombeau goes back to last season which is heavily possible because both of them saved some games this season compared to none last season.

Allen had a GAA of 3.30 and SV% of .905 last year, this year he's at 3.26 and 0.901 so he already is at last years level. Monty is better, but that's likely related to not be used as #1 due to injuries.

This would be my roadmap to success if I was the GM

Build this roster around the following players/prospects;

Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Dach, Beck, Mesar, Farrell, Guhle, Xhekaj, Hutson, Mailloux, Harris, Barron.

Add the following;

PLD (via FA), 2023 top 10 (please), 2024 top 10 (please), a legitimate goalie prospect.

Bring Farrell and Barron in 2023/24 and Beck, Mesar, Mailloux in 2024/25. Hutson 2025/26

in 2025/26 Aim for something like....

Dach - Suzuki - Caufield
Slaf - PLD/2023 top 10 - 2023 top 10/PLD
Farrell - Beck - Mesar
???? - 2024 top 10 - ????

Guhle - Mailloux

TSN put out their core 4 under 24 rankings. They have Montreal 4th:

Next up in the league-wide ranking are a pair of Canadian teams: No. 4 Montreal and No. 5 Ottawa.

The Canadiens have six U-24 players on their current roster, headlined by AA forwards Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. Importantly, Montreal has four defencemen, including 2022-23 team members Kaiden Guhle, an A player, and Arber Xhekaj, a B. The only missing ingredient for the Canadiens is a prospective successor to Carey Price in goal.

Montreal ranks second in U-24 goals (45) and points (113), led by Suzuki (14-16-30) and Caufield (16-9-25).

Goalie prospect
Rosters with this many prospects are kind of worthless is what I've learned, as most don't pan out, I'd focus on building one that has 6 good forwards, 4 good D and a #1 Goalie

As far as this year, i'd hope to try and get a later 1st for Mony at the deadline, then trade the worst 1st between FLA and unknown team to the Jet's to get Dubois.

Dubois, Suzuki, Caufield, Dach and Slaf, along with our 2023 first is likely going to be a fantastic starting point.

The D and G need work though and I dont see much coming in the pipeline that Can take either the 1D or 1G position.

Just for the record....Heineman should get a lot better rep after the camp he had, was the best prospect in my book!

TSN put out their core 4 under 24 rankings. They have Montreal 4th:

Most of the Grades are ridiculous. Look at Philly. A nothing like Gauthier is an A. And Farabee is a B? And Frost not even listed. Farabee is by far their best young player unless he doesn't recover from the surgery he had.

Fair enough point. It is very optimistic on my part, but our depth is quite good in my opinion.

Even if you take this team and two of Beck, Mesar, Farrell, 2023 top 10 and 2024 top 10 pan out, that is still good. Fill the other spots with other prospects and/or signings.

Same applies to the defense prospects. Pick one of Barron, Hutson and Mailloux to pan out. It still looks good. I would truly bet that all three are NHLers though. We know Guhle, Xhekaj and Harris are NHLers.

I don't think Philly has much. But Columbus might - that would leave us 6th worst.
Columbus and Arizona are better than their records. Blue Jackets need a coach. Arizona sent Guenther to the WJC because they were afraid they might win some games.

Arizona is such a joke every year they suck, every year they have zero fans and now their playing in a college arena and yet Mr Buttman refuses to move that franchise

Imagine they land Bedard it would be such a waste
He can't really move the franchise if the current ownership wants to be there. The owners make more money away from the franchise than directly from it. But yeah I agree with your conclusion

Anaheim has 7 wins on the season, but only 1 in regulation. Hopefully, tonight will be their second regulation win. In truth, I see Habs winning this.

We also need Florida to lose in regulation against Pittsburgh.

- TBL win vs. CBJ: TBL could move 7 pts ahead of FLA in the division.
- WSH win vs. DAL: they could move 4 pts up on MTL & FLA in the overall standings.
- PHI win vs. NJD: PHI could come within 3 pts of MTL.
- NYR win vs. TOR: NYR could move 5 pts ahead of FLA in the WC race.
- NSH win vs. WPG: NSH could come within 1 pt of MTL.
- STL win vs. EDM: STL could come within 1 pt of MTL.

- BUF vs. COL: if BUF wins, they could pass MTL in the standings (will be tied in pts, but BUF has more RWs). if COL wins, they could move 2 pts up on FLA.
