To do pretty much nothing is embarrassing. Way to show support to your players, Chaim. Couldn't even get a pitcher. Like damn.

Translation: Bloom was never really close on any SP (maybe except for Hill). He was just looking for one MIF who could play multiple positions (DeJong was another option).
He would only deal players like Duvall, Verdugo or Paxton for a massive overpay. I gotta assume that the Dodgers tried to get him and offered the same or better package they would have sent to Detroit for E-Rod.

Urias is a fine pick up. 2 WAR player for multiple years, but has benn injured this year and only played 20 games. B% and K% were in line with the other years. BABIP extremely low. I wouldn't be surprised if he bounces back.

Starting to get healthy and back on track in July down in AAA. He’s an Arroyo upgrade and imo the odds on favorite to start at 2B next year

To me they only needed a backend starter so they can stop rolling out bullpen games but they must figure that between one of Sale/Whitlock/Houck they’ll get that. It’s probably a fair gamble to make (as opposed to trading assets for somebody who is mid). Would’ve liked to see them move out some of their future rule 5 pile but I’d imagine other clubs don’t want to have the same 40 man dilemmas with them

Now this quote is the embarrassing one. The Red Sox are the little engine that could.

Buckle up! Maybe there will actually be consequences if it doesn't work.

Maybe Pivetta is moving back to the rotation? He earned another look. With SP coming back, maybe Whitlock swaps with him?

Bello
Paxton
Sale
Pivetta
Crawford
Houck??
I’ve always treated that Pivetta bullpen game as a true rotation spot anyway. At this point it basically is, he’s going 5/6 inning starters workload in those outings. Typical bulk guys do 3/4 innings. It’s that 2nd bullpen game that bothers me.

I think we may see Houck and Whitlock come back in the pen. And if so sheeeeeeeeesh that’s a dynamic pitching staff.

And look at that, they moved out Bradley Blalock for Urias. He was a part of that rule 5 pile I wanted them to deal from

Very disappointed at what Bloom did today.
He had nice assets he could have moved to make the team younger and build for the upcoming seasons. ( Paxton , Verdugo, Duvall, perhaps Jansen) and did nothing.

They ain’t selling only that many games back from a playoff spot in this market. Maybe Duvall or Verdugo to trade from a spot of perceived depth but not a sell-off

I like the Urias acquisition on an “upside” basis. If he can find himself prior to the injury, who was a 2 WAR player with some pop. Maybe Fenway could be good for him? Not sure. He’ll be interesting to watch. Team is set for the most part.

We ride.

Bradley Blalock going to Milwaukee in return. Not familiar with him.

The Sox formally assigned Urias to Worcester. I'm guessing that's more of a "well you can't get to Seattle in time for the game tonight so just hang there until we get back home and can open a roster spot" thing

Shown pretty good stuff in his return. A long way out as TJ set back his development but could possibly be a SP in the long run. Definitely could’ve been snatched in the rule 5 as he would’ve been tough for us to protect

I like the trade so much that I am concerned that the Brewers know something about Urias that the Red Sox don't.

I am totally fine with a good hitting 2B with slightly subpar to average defense. I don't really rate 2B defense that much. Don't need a gold glover over there.

The Bloom quotes are bad. Clearly doesn't believe the roster is ready for the playoffs but doesn't trade upcoming free agents in a strong sellers market. Loser mentality, besides not wanting to tell the guys in the room that he doesn't think they can win and the dip that might come from that, i don't understand how he stood still besides picking up a middle infielder who's in the minors because he's regressed.

Some pop for a 2B and good plate discipline but bad glove, bad baserunner and a career .235 hitter. Dumpster diving
He’s bad at SS, he’s fine at 2B and 3B

Kinda like Kikè, just with way more upside in the bat. Was a good hitter at the MLB level in 2021 and 2022 over no small sample. He’s in the minors because he struggled returning from injury and had options. Just got hot in July so he may be back on track

Arroyo upgrade

It's probably a classic case of fans disliking the trade, because it was the only one. Had they also traded for a Dylan Cease and Luis Urias was just a secondary acquisition, they'd like the trade better.

I really don't know what's to dislike about a potential 2 WAR player for two more years at a modest salary. For now, I am gonna think of this as a relatively bad / mediocre franchise like the Brewers not knowing what they're doing.

They didn't even call him up despite very solid / good numbers in AAA during his rehab. Maybe it saved them some pennies, who knows.
