Their record right now seems to be a fair reflection of what the team is. Slightly over .500.
They show flashes of good things offensively, and we've actually seen some good work from Sale and Paxton. Then there are series where the bats go ice cold, the bullpen falls apart, or the back end of the rotation gets blown out. Defense is a problem too.
They seem to be finding ways to lose winnable games more than the opposite. Honestly, I think the dark clouds started when Kenley blew consecutive games in the Cardinals series. They really haven't recovered fully.
I do think that once they get healthier they'll be more consistent overall - Duvall back in center, Story at short, Kike back into a position he can actually field in, that's a really good lineup. But it probably is too late considering the division they're in. If they were in the central, they could go out and acquire some pitching at the deadline and be a division winner. But from where we are we're fighting with 6 teams who are within eyeshot of the 3 wild cards and are already 4 games out of the 3rd WC.
I'm curious as to how Chaim will play the deadline this year given where they are. They could get really aggressive and make a charge at a wild card run, or be very conservative and use whatever they have to add to the farm system. Or a hybrid of some lateral moves. Either way the same people are going to complain.
